A4/S4/RS4 Do you have more respect for Audi after the B7 RS4?

The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced by Audi. Production: 1994-2025. Predecessor: Audi 80. Successor: Audi A5 (B10).

Do you have more respect for Audi after the B7 RS4?

That's correct, your memory is working ;) The RS4 had ceramic brakes, the Sports suspension and Pirelli race style tyres.

:t-cheers:

Then I was correct:). Remove the sport suspension, R-tyres and the carbon ceramic brakes and RS4 will easily be 10 seconds slower around the ring.

I don't disagree. Even so, with these optional extra's I was throughly impressed by what the RS4 achieved in Sport Auto's test.

When it comes to regular, normal driving (without the optional extra's), the RS4's driving dynamics are still looking pretty good (handling, feel and etc).. :usa7uh: (or at least what I've read)

I want a ride in one.. :eusa_thin :eusa_pray

You just crack me up with your posts sometimes...:t-rot:

The RS4 opened my eyes and made me realise that not only BMW can make good sports cars.

The fact of the matter is the RS4 is capable of 8:09 around the Nurburgring, but it most likley must be eqquiped with those three extra's (ceramic brakes, sports suspension and R Tyres) All of those options are road legal though :) ..

However, Luwalira makes a very good point. When Sport Auto tested the V8 Vantage with the optional Pirelli Sport Tyre it achieved 8:03 on the 'Ring, when it was eqquiped with the standard Bridgestone tyres the V8 Vantage did 8:13. 10 seconds slowers..

Thanks for pointing out this very important issue. When the B7 RS4 was tested by Sport Auto and I learned of the awesome time it posted on Nurburgring, I was VERY IMPRESSED. It was a full 13 seconds faster than the E46 M3 and W203 C55 AMG. Finally, an Audi car which could beat the benchmark M3.

Then, we learn that the RS4 was tested with Sport Cup tires, and then people started to wonder how fast it would have been with standard street tires. The fact that the V8 Vantage gained 10 full seconds on the Nuburgring just by having stickier cup tires means the RS4 may lose that amount if it was on street tires. Not to mention that the optional sport suspension and ceramic brakes aren't even available in North America means that 8:09 Nurburgring time really means even less to me.

Don't get me wrong, I still am very impressed with the RS4, just not as much as before. I voted "yes" for this poll because the B7 RS4 raised my respect for Audi as a PERFORMANCE car manufacturer to compete with M and AMG. All previous S cars were slower in everyway.

Exactly:). There is no car in the world that doesn't benefit from Carbon ceramic brakes and racgin tyres. If a car is fast fast without them, it will be even faster with those extras.

Racing tyres = Shorter braking distance + car can take corners at higher speeds.

Carbon Ceramic brakes: Shorter braking distance + driver can brake later in the corner.

If the M5 was equiped with those it probably be faster the RS4 around the ring.
Then again there are probably other manufacturers who kind of cheat by equiping their cars with the best options before handing it to Sports Auto.

Bottom line is that the RS4 is damn good but not as great as the E46 M3 has been the latest decade.

PC Valkyrie & Luwalira, I'm glad you guys concur with what I've said :t-cheers:

I also agree, with pretty much everything you guys have said :usa7uh:

I still today dont understand why the Rs4 wasnt tested with different settings just like the AM V8.

My friend with a RS4 V8 dont have the extra sportpackage or ceramic brakes on his Rs4, even without it, the Rs4 has tons of grip and for someone who never experienced a handling car before, he will be very shocked how fast a car can take a sharp bend.

Nope, when the curent A6 and A8 camed out my respect for Audi grew considerably.

The fact that the RS4 is as good as it is wasn't a surprise.

I voted yes... mainly due to the RS4's rear-bias configuration. It's about time Audi did that for performance oriented cars.

I also voted Yes simply because my respect did not decrease when this came out, it only grew.

So yes, well done Audi.

The B7 RS4 is a step in the right direction, though Audi's (I believe personally) are a ways form matching the handling of BMW's. Awesome car!!

Insult? It wasn't an insult. I just didn't get what he said.

Sorry about that. You should have simply said that "I don't understand you". Usually when people say "Speak English please", it is often meant in a mean kind of way.

I do not believe that at all....and i am sure there are many tests that have shown better hankdling cars from audi.....and if they aren't as good, it sure doesn't mean they are ways off of BMW.

I did say that was my personal opinion. :D

NO, I have less.
But that has nothing to do with the car, and everything to do with the dealers.
After taking my A4 to the dealer for an A/C problem and a transmission problem. I did not get my car back for THREE months. In that time they fixed the A/C (replaced the compressor, a few hour job). They could not verify the transmission banging into each and every gear.
When I got the car back I found they only drove the car 5 miles. I have put more miles on cars that I only did an oil change on.
So as of now I feel I can not get another Audi, at least until they fix the dealerships. So I guess I am "stuck" driving Mercedes.
I am sure the RS4 is a nice car.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
