Daimler is to extend Dr Zetsche's contract after it's expiry at the end of 2013. This is good news and hopefully he can see the fruits of his labour and Mercedes to reclaim the top spot in the luxury car segment.

My take is that Mercedes-AMG will continue to participate in Formula 1 with Dr Zetsche's contract extension.

Also, in the original Reuters article, there is an interesting picture behind Dr Zetsche that showed the AMG version of the upcoming CLA sedan.

IMO too, great decision. The guy took a weak Mercedes and brought out on the top again. The reliabilty and overall quality of the cars are miles away before/after him.
I hope however, that Dainler fires the whole design team :P

Now bring back Bruno Sacco and you'd have it just like the good ole days of design AND quality.

He's the most suitable CEO to run Daimler from all aspects... Especially his physical appearance.
He looks like the men from that era of Gottlieb and Karl Benz. Amazing
The wise and great Dr. Z

I think his character alone, his look, the "mad genius" style he has is the most appropriate for a company like M-B. It's like they cast him as CEO, as Benzino said, it's as if he's from the era of Karl Benz and Gottlieb.

I think he's got a strong business sense, and in many respects has turned M-B around quickly. However, at the same time, I'm still uncertain as to how much of a "product guy" he is. The designs are messier, more criticized, more polarizing, and less cohesive than ever, and M-B is far behind the competition in many respects when it comes to technicalls, save for the S-Class. I'd criticize the interior materials of some of their newer cars VS their older ones during their time, but I understand that's due to cost cutting economics, and maybe is more of a "have to" than being solely his call and fault.

What they have gotten back is that robust durability, however, and in M-B terms, that's probably the most important of all.

One thing that I haven't been crazy about re: him is how he keeps on saying M-B's "sales plans" for the future, how they plan to overtake their competition in future sales, when they're in heavy market share decline VS Audi right now. It makes him put out promises that he may not be able to keep, it also makes M-B look weak, like a brand that needs help. I think M-B's CEO needs to be in a sense arrogant but able to back it up, i.e "We're M-B, we don't have to compete with lessor brands.... we will build them better than anyone, and you will then buy them". Basically, its needs the Steve Jobs of cars.

The designs are messier, more criticized, more polarizing, and less cohesive than ever, and M-B is far behind the competition in many respects when it comes to technicalls, save for the S-Class.

I pray to God they stop using lines just so you can stop complaining about them! :nailbiting:

In essence, Dr. Zetsche is set to get a new 5 year contract. The contract for Professor Dr Thomas Weber head of R&D for Daimler is also to be extended. The fund managers are not happy, they only want a 3 year extension and want Dr Zetsche to be the head of Daimler AG only and appoint a new head for Mercedes-Benz cars. Currently Dr Zetsche heads both Mercedes-Benz cars and the parent company Daimler AG.

Stuttgart. The Treaty of Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche is according to a report by "Business Week" on 21February will be extended by five years to 2018. The contracts of Chief Scientific Officer Thomas Weber and Compliance Executive Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt to the report, 21 February will be extended. A Daimler spokesman commented on the report, not on Saturday.

Ingo Speich, manager of the investment company, Union Investment, criticized the possible extension for a further five years Zetsche. "Three years would be quite enough," he said. "Then we could see later whether an extension is appropriate."

Shareholders also require Zetsche delivers its responsibility for the car division. "We do not believe that Mr. Zetsche both chief executive and head of automotive sector," said DWS fund manager Stefan Bauknecht the "Business Week". It makes sense in his opinion, would be an own boss for this area. With this demand, DWS was not alone. Comments suggest a "different group structure with smaller, more powerful units," the paper quoted another manager for a large German investment company, without giving a name.
