Notice how the slick patch increases as the tyre grows wider with these Cup 2s!

Interesting that the GT3 keeps its acceleration lead to at least 150 mph. 0-150 mph times:
GT3: 17.1 s
Z06: 17.8 s

I would not have thought that. The Porsche performs incredibly well for only 500 hp. PDK and Porsche is hard to beat. What will the GT3 RS do...:)

Nobody can explain why the Z06 is so slow in a straight line. The downforce really isn't that high, it's just very draggy and heat soak caused by the smaller (than ZR1) 1.7L blower probably doesn't help. Even the C6 Z06 is faster to 150mph.

+MRNU979 Funny you mention that as I've actually saved a picture of the Z07"s rear tires as a laugh on my phone. It looks NOTHING like a Cup 2 whatsoever because of that expansive slick-like gap between the outer and inner tread pattern of the tire, not to mention it runs a far lower tread depth. Shown it to other fellow car nuts and they thought it was worn out!

You are forgetting gearing. Granted the C7 makes more torque, the C6 quite possibly geared longer. At higher speeds, the C6 is still in lower gear than the C7 quite possibly and has more torque multiplication available due to being in lower gear. Plus, the C7 has substantial more downforce than the C6.

Also, shift points matter particularly in a manual transmission car. That is why some manufacturers in an effort to obtain the best 0-60 mph avoid a shift so that the car can reach 60 mph in just one gear.

The C7 seems to be built for the track and less for drag racing (much like the Z28). Funny how the definition of muscle cars has completely changed in the last 5 years.

Nah, it's really not that. Even the GT3 is faster after 120mph. The C7 Z06 tops out at 185mph, less than a base model C6. The ZR1 did 205mph with 638hp and ran >130mph in the quarter. It also beat the same year GTR with PS2s on.

This C7 Z06 has performance relative to the current GTR roughly equivalent to a C6 Z06 on Goodyears, except the C7 is using about the best semi-slicks available.

The Corvette was never a muscle car, except to people who don't know the difference between a large engined sports car and a muscle car.;))

Also, remember the C7 Z06 is weighing around 3560 lbs compared to under 3200 lbs for the C6 Z06. The weight difference also accounts for some parts of it.

Granted the slicks on C7 Z06 are better, the GTR DSST nonetheless also have semi slick outboard shoulders. Although, not as sticky. Not sure about the NISMO which is more aggressively "tired" than a standard GTR.

Nismo uses exact same 255/285 DSST tyres, which are now a 7 year-old design with a 200 treadwear rating.

Tyres are always an important issue because they can be cheaply changed without affecting warranty or insurance. Changing the chassis, engine, gearbox or layout is somewhat more costly and difficult.

Then discuss that in a SPECIFIC tyre thread!! This thread is about the C&D review of the Z06 and GT3.
