BUT...

65% of the population are vaccinated, so 35% of the population are unvaccinated, so

65/35 = 1.86

1.86/0.44 = 3.46

Hence, the unvaccinated are 246% more likely to die.

The 44 is not a percentage it's simply a ratio. If you multiply 65 and 35 by total population/100 in the above denominators you get a probability of death for the vaccinated and unvaccinated, yielding the result that the unvaccinated are 4.23x more likely to die. I.e.

112/[0.65 x Tot Pop] = 0.54/Tot Pop

209/[0.35 x Tot Pop] = 1.86/Tot Pop

[1.86/Tot Pop]/[0.44/Tot Pop] = 3.46

246% is exactly 2,5 times. In order to have 90% protection it should be 9 times.

It's not bad to remove the blindfold from time to time. I'm vaccinated and would advise everybody to do it. But the lockdown is not because of the people which are not vaccinated but because the virus is too strong for the current vaccines. There are countries with far smaller percentage of vaccinated than the NL but they are not in a lockdawn.

Countries cannot be compared like that. Dutch people don't feel like taking orders and rather do what they themselves want. We are highly egoistic in this country, MUCH more so than most other countries on this entire planet. I don't see that as a brag, I see that as a fact. And the result is a virus that cannot be contained, because people do what they want to do. We also live cramped up in the "Randstad" with millions upon millions of people neatly packed together with no free space anywhere.

We also have been cutting cost on healthcare for well over two decades, and the result is like 1200 IC beds for the whole country. Code black is looming, which means they are going to have to select who to treat and who not to treat. Who not to treat! Let that sink in! No IC bed left in the entire country. In one of the richest high tech western societies on earth. We're on around 90% vaccination rate btw, no booster shots yet though.

The Netherlands has shut down flights from there, but that doesn't matter anymore at all because that mutation is everywhere already, with reports coming in from Belgium, our f#cking neighbor country with open borders and tons of traffic every day between them. Not too long ago, I resolved to distance myself from political discussions/debates on these automotive forums. Hence, without intending to launch a rabid diatribe making air of my now (I suspect) irreversable disgust directed at my country's public service executives and administrators, I'll simply say that the fecklessness presented by them is shameful. This transcends party and/or ideological boundaries. The morbidity appears omnipresent and all-encompassing. The system is gravely ill and perhaps irreversably broken. Beyond tragic, and quite frankly, I'm glad that I'm old. I concentrate on the well-being of my wife FIRST, followed by my own (we have no children). Terribly egotistical, I know. But I've simply become too jaded, too exhausted to be able to muster enough energy to give a f*** about the rest.

German media citing accounts of the Omicron strains' "high contagion, mild yet unusual symptoms such as blood pressure spikes and general fatigue yet no loss of taste/smell, no high fever, no severe cough and relatively quick recovery". I have absolutely no clue regarding the credibility of these alleged accounts originating from South Africa. Somewhat relieving should they be true.

Thanks alot Martin, it has been extremely difficult the last 2 years, having to deal with the shit with the virus over here in KSA and then worrying about the family back home with all changes going on. Luckily my positivity gets me through and hoping as you said, this Omicron variant is all a bit of hogwash BS. Lets hold thumbs and big toes buddy I can be home for Christmas.
