I looked all over the interenet for something that compares these two cars but came up empty handed for the most part. The CLK has quite a bit more power than the 335i however seeing that the 335i has had such good reviews and an increasing amount of praise from car journalist, I thought i would pin it up against a car thats a bit out of its league. Support your vote with opinions concerning style, price, performance (track times, acceleration) etc.

CLK 550:

Price: $55,675
Engine: N/A 5.4 litre V8

These were the best I could find of this particular car....If anyone wants to post their own pictures of the CLK please do so.

I chose the 335i because it's visually inspiring, it looks like
a trouble maker looking for someone to pick on.

The CLK 550, BATE!:D

IMO the CLK is a rip off. Hopefully the new one will designed with price in mind.

I looked for that but couldnt find it...i typed it in the search engine as well. O well. You dont have to vote here but id rather not close the thread just yet.

For the CLK's money, you can tune your 335i to be over 400hp. I would definitely rather have the BMW, just because it's one of my favorite "down to earth" cars at the moment, but the Benz definitely still have its charms.

great pics of both cars btw Matt

CLK550 is not worth the money compared to 335i. Choose 335i and save cash and pay extra for a engine chip instead :usa7uh:

I'd have to go with the 335i too. The CLK550 has a lot of power, but the rest of the car is really starting to show its age, moreso than other MB models that came out at the same time like the E and SL. This current generation CLK has never really looked the part like the previous model (my car!). Go with the 335i, not as powerful, but much newer, better handling and generally a superior car IMO. The only thing the CLK550 has is that new gem of a V8, but its strapped to a now old vehicle.

the first time i perfare a beemer over a mercedes .
give me the Twin Turbo 335i

why the same thread once again..
ohh well like the last time..
335 for me.. its cheaper.. fresher.. and nicer to drive

I will take the 335 over the CLK550.
It's Nicer.
Better performance.
Cost less.
It's a bargain!!

several years later...

I just bought a 2007 CLK550 yesterday and found this thread. It's interesting that kbb.com now values the similarly spec'ed CLK550 and the 335i convertibles as follows:

CLK550 Convertible - $34,960
335i Convertible - $38,710

That's pretty amazing that the BMW kept it's value and is now worth more than the CLK, but I'm glad with my decision. I'm getting way more car for less money now.

I've owned a BMW 325i convertible before and it was a fantastic ride but everything on it broke. Power windows - broken, power mirrors - broken, power top - broken. It also developed a timing / misfiring issue that the best BMW engineers couldn't fix. Maybe they've improved things since that model, but for me it's too late, I'd never buy BMW every again.

I've heard that Mercedes is a different class of quality engineering. I guess only time will tell...

The CLK550 and 335i couldn't be more different cars. I don't even know why they were compared to each other in the first place in this thread. One is a luxury GT cruiser and the other is a luxury sports coupe.

All the best with your CLK. :usa7uh:
