1964 Mercedes 230SL W113 Prototype/Concept:

Two months after the new animated cartoon world W113 Mercedes-Benz representatives received a letter from Pininfarina to authorize the creation on its basis of the original body. Permission was obtained immediately. As a result, the author of the elegant body became a 28-year-old American Tom Tjaarda , who worked in those years in the Italian studio.

From serial roadster prototype went platform interior, most glass, optics and grille. Taken into account when designing the possibility of small-scale production. And, indeed, the success did not wait: after the premiere was received about 30 orders for the car, however due to a lack of interest in the project from the Mercedes-Benz coupe and remains in a single copy, which was later sold to the German newspaper magnate Axel Springer.
