ROSAMOND, California — Ninety miles north of Los Angeles, Dodge put a handful of 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s on the 2.5-mile road course at Willow Springs Raceway, allowing a small group of automotive journalists the opportunity to have their way with the new 425-horsepower rear-wheel-drive muscle car.

Drivers put the 4,200-pound 6.1-liter Hemi V8-powered coupe through the nine-turn high-speed circuit before moving to the parking lot to flat-out smoke its 20-inch 45-series Goodyear Eagle RS-A all-season tires.

Dodge dealers have been taking orders for the $37,995 Challenger SRT8 since December.

More fun with the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be revealed when Inside Line publishes its full road test on April 30.

What this means to you: No report on how many tires gave their lives for these few hours of pure muscle car bliss. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
