Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept

Looks like an ugly tank. I don't like one bit of its in-your-face design. Very unimaginative bar the hood opening and the divised rear window. Remove the bicolour paint and you have a big shapeless whale.

The 8 pipes are rather embarrassing; they however have history at Bugatti as the glorious Bugatti Atlantic had no less than six pipes.

This Galibier is almost as bad as the Lagonda Concept, I even would dare to say the Lagonda was at least interesting designwise. .

Looks like a small willow pipe orchestra!

I sure hope they build that car. The ultimate sedan and coupe. Who could touch Bugatti after that? No one!

Regardless of "looks" issue this would crush the Phantom, Bentley and Maybach in terms of performance and exclusivity.

I'm suprised nobody has post this yet:

Bugatti is also working on a new Veyron Grand Prix Edition.

This year is an important one for Bugatti. Not only does 2009 represent the centenary of the legendary marque but it also now marks the unveiling of a super sedan that may constitute the future plans of the company. One hundred years to the month since the company was founded by Ettore Bugatti, we now have our first look at Bugatti’s latest concept: the 2009 Bugatti Galibier 16C.

Speaking previously, Bugatti chief Franz-Josef Paefgen revealed that there are in fact three proposed designs for the next-gen Bugatti. This news mates well with what Bugatti officials told TheCarConnection in July, which is that the Galibier 16C is in fact a design model being shown to clients and dealers.

According to a new report, the concept may go into production once the run of Veyron’s have come to an end, expected to be sometime in 2012.

The Galibier 16C is constructed from a mix of aluminum and carbon-fiber, which will ensure that it is the lightest car in its class. The body itself is made of polished aluminum and dark blue carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), and LED lights flank each end.

Styling is borrowed from the Bugatti Type 57 Atlantique, including the historic model’s hatchback and spine design elements. Inside, there’s space for four and a large wooden dash that is dominated by two centrally mounted dials showing available power and speed. A removable clock manufactured by Switzerland’s Parmigiani also features.

Although no technical details have been revealed, the Galibier 16C is thought to feature the Veyron’s 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine and an output of around 800 horsepower, though it does away with the four turbos and replaces them with a two-stage supercharging system. Another key difference is the installation of an 8-speed automatic transmission rather than the Veyron’s advanced dual-clutch unit.

A final decision on possible production plans of the Galibier 16C is expected by the spring of 2010. In the meantime, Bugatti has its hands full filling current order lists. The company only has 50 spots left for the Veyron, of which the total build will be 300 units. The Grand Sport model, which is limited to just 150 models, has already received several dozen orders.

Its starting to look a little bit better, but still this car is a huge letdown. They need to design something that doesn't look like it shares a platform with another VW Empire product. The 2-tone treatment doesn't work too well either in some shots. It needs to be longer, lower, wider, something so it doesn't look like a Mulsanne or Panamera off-shoot.

For a million dollars I want something truly bespoke like the Veyron. They've got the engine/transmission ready to go, now it needs a better body and interior.

I hope that hood opens more than just that little party piece. It would suck if it didn't.

Well I doubt that any future owner of the car would even do any minor DIY servicing like changing spark plugs themselves:D

Anyhow, I am pleased to read that this is only a design proposal and that there are three others. The front-end is looking better and better but the rear is problematic to say the least.

They better work on it a lot before it goes into production. For a sedan to cost this much it is going to have to provide an out of this world driving experience considering the sedans you can have for way less than half the price. The styling could use some work too.

I somewhat approve of the nose, especially with the lights switched on. But overall the radical design need to be tamed into something more sophisticated that will trigger the same emotions as the Veyron or Mulsanne.

My goodness........lol.

I'd wait for the official word though.

True...I guess I got a little ahead of myself. Only think is the 2013 release date is so far away. Be nice to see the hatchback rear go, but either way it will crush the old world idea or Rolls-Royce being the highest form of luxury.

There are super sedans and then there are super sedans. Bugatti's Galibier 16C Concept is definitely one of the latter, with its 8.0-liter W-16 engine and incredibly opulent interior. The latest reports emerging from within Bugatti's walls are that the car isn't just a concept anymore--it's been green-lighted for production. No confirmation of the reports has come directly from Bugatti yet, but the Galibier 16C was being shopped as a potential production car, depending on the reaction it got from the potential client base. After just a few public showings, the car's unique feature set appears to have done the job.

Featuring four seats inside its leather and wood cocoon, the Galibier 16C isn't the thoroughbred speed demon the Veyron is. Instead of a twin-clutch gearbox, the Galibier gets a refined eight-speed automatic. Instead of 1,000 horsepower from a quad-turbocharged W-16 engine, it gets a "mere" 800 horsepower from a two-stage supercharging system.

But there's also a high-tech element at work, with polished aluminum and carbon fiber bodywork, all the top electronic driving aids and an advanced active suspension system. A marriage of classical and modern technology comes in the form of a custom Swiss clock, called the Reverso Tourbillon, by Parmigiani, which serves as the car's interior clock and can also be removed and worn on the wrist on a custom-designed leather strap. The Galibier 16C is expected to cost about $1.45 million if it does go to production. Cars could start rolling out of the factory--at a relaxed, highly individualized pace, of course--by early 2010.

Hmm..I was hoping for the 1000hp version. 800hp isn't enough for me. Oh well it will do.
