X3/X4 BMW X4 is coming...

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3.

So they reckon the X4 will be a clone of the X6 only slightly smaller?

Get it right and it could well steal sales from not only the X3 but the 3 series saloon and coupe too.

..and bring in equal or greater profit than each of those models.

Better to do it yourself than have your competitors do it for you. Besides, it's clear BMW won't be playing the sales-numbers game with the 3er anymore since the Coupe, Convertible and GranCoupe will be under the 4er family now. Also, add an even more profitable X4M model down the track, and it makes perfect cents. :)

This one is a bit more realistic especially how the new signature three-dimensional grille and connecting
headlight shape will meet. The roofline although highly dramatic is very similar aswell.
BMW have investigated customer demands for the X4 and the most wanted demand is to have a smaller
X6. What is interesting is that immediately after the X4 , BMW will introduce the next X6 model.

Given that the X4 is expected to arrive on the market before competitors from Audi and Mercedes-Benz
But after the Porsche Macan. BMW are wasting no time and have started initial development on the flagship
X4M another potential volume M model as a more accessible compact X6M aimed at customers who cannot
reach the financial levels of the BMW X6M. With the powertrain borrowed from the forthcoming M3, BMW M.
are aiming to make sure that the X4M performs as well as the M3 dynamically and also with the latest
development of BMW's torque vectoring control which for the X4M and X6M will receive an engineering work
over from the M. Division in order to make the car highly communicative on the road.

Just as the X6 concept laid the foundations for a production model a few months later first appearing at the
IAA in Frankfurt in September 2007. BMW will showcase a Concept of the X4 at the IAA in September 2013,
amongst other premieres ahead of a 2014 launch.

Prototypes of the X4 in camouflage are about to hit the streets of Germany and then globally.
As BMW initiates an intensive development programme to make sure the X4 is a very thorough competitor
in a potentially high-growth segment.

BMW will unveil its latest “Sports Activity Coupe," the X4 crossover, in concept form at the 2013 Detroit show in January.

The Bavarian automaker invented the notion of a Sports Activity Coupe a few years back with the X6, essentially an X5 with more aggressive styling, a sloping roofline and significantly decreased cabin space. Look for the X4 to follow the same formula, only with the smaller X3 as its basis.

In Europe, the X4 will get a range of gas and diesel engines of the four- and six-cylinder varieties, while gearbox choices will include a traditional six-speed manual, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and a conventional eight-speed automatic. Because they aren't offered in the U.S.-market X3, it’s unlikely (though still possible) that the X4 will be offered stateside with a manual transmission or diesel engine. Do, however, expect a range-topping X4 M with a turbocharged inline-six similar to that of the upcoming M3.

The X4 will carry a price premium over its more utilitarian X3 sibling; whereas the X3 starts at $39,395, an Autoweek report suggests that the X4 will carry a base price of $42,000.
Last year, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer revealed that the X4 will reach production in 2014. Volume limitations had originally led BMW to shelve the project, but the shift in X3 production from Germany to the company's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina freed up enough capacity for the X4 to become a reality.

Should be interesting.

Noone has caught any disguised prototypes of this thing?

It better look different than the X3, because though F25 look better, it is still not the stunner.

I'm quite sure it will be like X1. First Concept, then testing. Less to tape, more savings. :)

Cars like the 2er and X4 can basically "hide themselves" under their sister so that you the viewer is none the wiser and of course it throws the photographers aswell because they are not out looking for an F21 or an X3.
The 2er is heading to Northern Sweden for winter testing and we shall expect to see the first X4 mule there aswell as some other models - The BMW city hatch (nee MINI based) taking their first steps in the snow.

If you cast your mind back to 2007 and it was winter testing where we first saw the E82 and then that exclusive at that petrol station for photography purpose when it was caught by a photographer who escaped a beating by security.

originally planned for Detroit 2013, will now appear in Shanghai, on Apr 21. the new BMW X4 (concept):

the X4 and Macan are gonna make mincemeat of what remains of the Evoque's 'bulging order books'. no wonder JLR is pumping out PR bilge via Autocar this morning, as an entirely predictable spoiler, knowing the Evoque-killer's X4's exposure starts today, and the Evoque will have no significant update for another two years at least. ...panic in Gaydon! No Evoque, no JLR.
