From the outside, easy. From behind the wheel, not a chance!

Come now Martin. You haven't even driven it.

@Tumbo. I agree. I would pick the Q3 over an X1 in a heartbeat.
1. It doesn't look like an ugly toad
2. Far superior interior quality
3. Superior refinement
4. It rides and handles well enough for a little SUV.

Dynamically you can't possibly see a FWD-based A Class on stilts being on the same level as the X1? I've driven the X1 a lot. It's a peach.

1. It doesn't look like an ugly toad - In Your Opinion - IMO, the Q3 looks worst of the trio. Camel back.
2. Far superior interior quality - No, it's a tad better in some areas, layout and driving position sucks though.
3. Superior refinement - Please explain?
4. It rides and handles well enough for a little SUV. - Indeed, it's a Golf (pre-MQB) platform.:)

Edit: Forget personal opinion regarding looks etc. Chassis-dynamics wise the X1 is on a different planet and segment currently (we all know the FWD/UKL platform is coming).

Oh i must drive this X1..its a peach you say, i thought cars like this granted very little driving pleasure.
But i must be wrong then. or the X1 must be an exception.

Ive driven the X3,X5 and X6.. ain't much joy there.

As funny as it is the X1 has better steering feel than the F30 and is engaging to drive unlike many other SUVs.
I owned both the X5 and X6 and they both feel more like normal cars than SUVs. Drive wise they were far superior than both the ML and the first gen. Cayenne. Q7 is out of the equation :)

^I must try this miracle machine called the X1 then.

I driven the existing gen X6 and previous gen X5. Very well composed SUVs ( or does BMW call it SAVs? haha)
But exciting? naah..

My mum drive X1 and it feels pretty much like 1-series to drive but with higher seat position. I must admit that steering feel is better in my mums X1 than my babybimmer. But overall I prefer driving my babybimmer.

Sure you have
If there's no joy there you are either not telling the truth, or you simply haven't driven any other SUV.

Then again....why am I even trying against obvious troll attacks?

I wouldn't be caught dead in either of them.

So what are you driving then yourself? :D

Nobody said it was a GT3-slayer, or exciting, just more than likely better to drive because it doesn't have electric steering, the 2WD models are RWD and because the AWD models use permanent AWD, as opposed to GLA's Haldex system. Don't worry LaArtist, the GLA's doing better than the A-hole-mobile BMW in the pole... all is good on planet Benz:)

^^^^ preach on !!!!
And BTW, an X1 2.8i is a JOY to drive. No "buts", it's a sharp driving tool. More so than most regular Benzes.

All's good on Benz Planet. No worries, the GLA is winning this poll (which makes sense with the huge amount of MB fanboys this forum has these days)

My mum drive X1 .
I rest my case

Ive driven the ML, Previous Cayenne,Q7, Q5 and so on.. and yes the BMWs are more agile no hiding that.
But FUN? shieet you must have very little fun in your life if you call that fun:D

Me i ride in a W212.. Coasting..no thrills just chill :D
(notice ride not drive)

Do yourself the favor or have you driven a E90 3er? Same experience, yet my 23d with X-Drive and DPC (Dynamic Performace Control) + the fact it's not nearly as heavy as a X5/X6 and lower center of gravity, makes it factually a peach to drive. And by ownership of both mentioned vehicles I think I may have a pretty good idea:);)

Edit: Best steering feel in current production the X1 has Hydraulic assisted steering (apart from some ///M-models)

No doubt in my mind - when the tyres get squealing, the BMW's more appealing.

I don't think I really have to explain why I am not a VAG fanboy:D But apples with apples and FWD platforms in one:

*GLA, Q3 and VW Tiguan "Poll" is needed.;)

*Value for money, looks and practicality also usability?

= VW Tiguan without even blinking for me, thanks very much!;)(y)

Bethlehem Volkswagen (local dealer) has a Audi "preview" showroom on the same premises. Q3 alongside a Tiguan IRL..

Tiguan by a mile! I have my Audi's e.g. the R8, A/S7 and as of late the S3 Sedan that I adore. The Q3 is really not Audi's shining star. VAG did Audi down by making the Tiguan look better - same car, one is a pricey rip-off and the other a VW Star.

I too love the Tiguan... hmm everything but the interior to be honest.
If it wasn't for my position I'd pick it over the Touareg... its interior sucks too :)

Yes i have driven the E90 3er..damn near rattled my teeth off :D

I hope your X1 is more comfortable

No doubt in my mind - when the tyres get squealing, the BMW's more appealing.
Again who squeals the tires on a X1 class car?
Probably you and the engineers that developed it.

Artist, on any given day, safety and anonymity permitting, I squeal tyres - in whatever I'm driving - and this is for years and years. Sure, most people never get to squeal the tyres on an X1 - agreed - but for those of us who do...
On ramps, off ramps, roundabouts, passes, sweeps... when the opportunity is favourable (no other road users in proximity, clearly sighted corners, well-known stretch of road) I drive for the fun of driving. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some suicidal E39 M5 drifting maniac - but yes I will put a car into an over-the-limit situation when the circumstances permit. Show me a petrolhead who doesn't, every now and then, enjoy his car in well-judged, safe and familiar circumstances. This can be done, given the requisite experience and maturity without being a menace to society.

It's in these circumstances that the GLA will just end up in nose-plough understeer and feedback-bereft numbness. X1 is a lekker car to drive, it reminds me a lot of my previous generation Foresters: sporty but still willing to get up on its tippy toes and do some graft. A surprisingly good drive.

^ For your style of driving the X1 sure is the one to pick from the litter.
The way you explain your driving is extremely alien to me, unless im sitting in a performance type of car.

Imagine you thinking your all alone on the road, and your sliding around in your round about, and someone sees you with your new 3 series.. they would be like..
Ah but of course :D

haha
