BMW Sauber mechanic injured after KERS shock
A BMW Sauber mechanic has been injured after suffering an electric shock, whilst the German-Swiss team were trying out their Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) during testing at Jerez on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when the squad’s test driver Christian Klien returned to the pits in the modified F1.07C following an initial installation run at the Spanish circuit.
“During testing of the KERS car at the Jerez track this morning, there was an incident involving a mechanic,” a BMW Sauber spokesman explained. “When the car returned to the pits, he touched it and suffered an electric shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm.”
Following the accident, the mechanic was taken to circuit’s medical centre for a brief examination before rejoining the test team. With an investigation underway, however, the squad abandoned their test programme for the rest of the day. Klien will be back on track on Wednesday in the team’s F1.08 to carry out development work for the 2008 season.
