M3/M4 BMW reveals lightweight M3 Sedan Concept

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
What is not certain, however, is whether or it will come to Blighty, at least as a saloon; sales of the four-door M3 are considerably slower than those of the coupe and the convertible, with 144 saloons being sold in the UK last year compared with 686 coupes and 384 convertibles."[/I]

Those numbers are worse than I thought, but on average I see an M3 sedan for every 6-7th M3 coupe on the roads here. This light weight coupe is probably a final bow for the M3 sedan. I don't think we'll see a new iteration in the next 5-6 years. A four seater coupe 4-series would certainly have better success.

BMW at least give it a carbon fiber roof panel?

Painted CFRP.

The color is based on Interlagos Blue with the metallic flakes removed giving it a very dull like but menacing sheen.
Some pointed out at Garching that it reminds them of the color Brabham Racing use.

This E90 is to give a gran finale to the Sedan which has months left , The Coupe has just under a year and a half to the end of it's line, so there will be something along the same lines closer to the car's demise as a run-out edition.

This is not the "Material Technology" car, this E90 is for production , The Material Technology car will not enter production.

Words cannot describe how badly I want one of these. With it comes mixed emotions for me; it's an inspiring machine, filled to the brim with the essence of M. At the same time I'm saddened that this is the last of its kind. All the more reason to want one. Will it come in a manual?

One year too late, but I guess better late than never. But then again, I am gonna contain my excitement till it is available in meaningful numbers at meaningful prices.

Sunny, it seems like this won't be the case according to this statement from Scott about the M3 Sedan's production time frame.

I wonder what will happen with the coupe, which is what I want. Please don't complicate this lol.

German Automotorsport says it will be called GTS but with 10 hp less than M3 E92 GTS.

Spotted the light weight concept yesterday at the M test center Nurburg:

If you are caught in the courtyard on a normal day you could find yourself prosecuted for tresspassing. Did you vault over the barrier or limbo underneath?;)
Spy photographs/videos etc are taken from the properties behind the testing centre.

Somebody must be doing some work on a Sunday, for the Prototype to be left out.
At the weekend cars are either taken by engineers or sent back to Munich/Garching or put indoors.

Or they are just left there when the marketing guys want photos of them all over the internet ;)

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
