@LaArtist, no point in continuing this when no car has been launched. You have had your say, and I have had mine. We will see in about a year.

The Panamera Turbo is the quicker car. But above 60 mph, the M5 is faster.

From 60-150mph the M5 needed 14.7s. The Panamera Turbo needed 17.1s and the Turbo S needed 15.5s. Technically the Panameras are ultimately faster since they have no speed governors and can hit 190mph+. But I fully delimited M5 would likely crack 200mph.

Actually looking at all 3 performance tests both Panamera Turbo and Turbo S will be quicker than the M5 up to 100mph (161km/h), the M5 will then start to overtake the much less powerful 500hp Turbo but to overtake the 550hp Turbo S it will need to be going 140 to 145 mph as the M5 is faster than the Turbo S to 150mph (18.3sec compared to 18.8sec).

M5:

Zero to 60 mph: 3.7 sec (4.2sec E60 M5)
Zero to 100 mph: 8.3 sec

Top gear, 50-70 mph: 2.4 sec
¼-mile: 12.0 sec @ 122 mph (12.5sec E60 M5)
Top speed (governor limited): 155-190 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 165 ft (158 ft E60 M5)
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: Not shown in test
Curb weight: 4300 lb (4100 lb E60 M5)

Panamera Turbo:

Zero to 60 mph: 3.3 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 8.2 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 20.4 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 4.1 sec

Panamera Turbo S:

Zero to 60 mph: 3.3 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 7.7 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 18.8 sec
Zero to 170 mph: 28.2 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 3.9 sec

I don't think we are saying anything in opposition to each other, except it takes the regular Panamera Turbo longer to go from 60-100mph (4.9s) than the M5 (4.6s). This other test also shows the M5's power in the mid range speeds (4.4s from 60-100mph which is equal to the Turbo S):

I wish Car and Driver tested the E63 S sedan to compare to the others. They only put the Wagon and CLS63 S through their acceleration tests:

Well that i know, ile wait a year. But in this thread we are talking about the old cars.
As you claim that there is nothing with 4 doors that smokes a M5.
Or actually you claim that nothing under a 918 Spyder smokes the M5.. ( insert scornful laughter)

Same with me wish they had tested the E63 S sedan it would have made very interesting reading and comparing! Thanks @TMCCL65 for the links for the other tests for the Mercedes models.:)

Yeah, I remember the FL E63 gave the M5 a hard time in some test drives. Is this correct @TMCCL65 ? I ask you since you seem to be the wikipedia of test drives LOL.

There have been a number of tests where the FL E63 S has given the M5 a beating. Autocar, Motor Trend, Autozeitung are a few that I can remember.

I don't know if "a beating" is a wholly appropriate way to describe the E63 S's wins given how closely matched these cars are. They each have their finer points and strong suits. I am just glad we have so many great choices to match our own preferences. Competition improves the breed!

I honestly love both M5 and E63 S and to choose between them will be a very difficult one as both look great, have fantastic sounding engines and huge power and performance plus superb luxury and spacious interiors. They are close to been supercar slayers!:D

@klier buddy this is what the next M5 has to aim for and beat!:)
