M5 BMW M5 & M5 Touring G90/G99 VIDEO Thread

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M
I miss buttons and switch gear. The interior looks so bare and non descriptive. I think BMW might reverse this in a few generation. Other car manufacturers have.

Cars are so uninteresting these days that I couldn't be bothered to google whether the G90 M5 is a plug-in hybrid or not. So if the G90 M5 is a plug-in hybrid, how does it perform when the battery pack is flat and will still be quicker than an F90 M5 CS?

It will be slower than the F90 M5 CS even when the battery is fully charged. The G90 M5 achieved 11.17sec at 199km/h (124mph) in the 1/4 mile in the above video. The M5 CS is a 10.2sec car to 200km/h (124mph), so its faster and this was with 2 testers in the car.

Thank you @Rolf

Wow... A new car that is slower than the old one... You can thank European Union for that... EU sucks.

The F90 M5 CS is a special version lighter weight M5. The G90 is just marketed as an everyday M5. That considered those numbers are still impressive considering the weight. If BMW decided to introduce a CS version of the G90 M5 it would probably have close to 800ps, slightly lighter weight and most likely beat the F90 M5 CS in the numbers department.

If you look at the acceleration numbers on the regular F90 M5 with 600PS it was just as fast or even faster than the latest G90, so in my opinion it has gone backwards, 727PS vs 600PS for the same performance. If I was in the market for this kind of car I would rather go for the new M3 Comp than buy the new M5.

This is from a 2018 comparison with the F90 M5 vs W213 Mercedes E63S.

The best 0-60mph time he could get was 3.41sec, which is about 0.3sec slower than the previous M5, M3 Comp and Merc E63S. 0-100mph in 7.31sec is also about 0.2 to 0.3sec slower and 1/4mile in 11.37sec is about 0.1 to 0.2sec slower. The massive 2419kg mass without driver is to blame but then the car also was a good example with 774PS power (compared to 727PS claimed).

And all the test were with the full battery.

With the empty battery it would be slower than M3.

I mean i don't blame BMW, I blame EU regulatives...

I don't know how they measure engine power. I don't understand either. All manufacturers lie. Only Audi doesn't.

I think m5 with 774 ps should go under 7 from 100 to 200 kmh.

Or maybe the Mercedes has about 10 percent more power than they say.

I don't care. And my Female Friends have always said you can't - sometimes - beat a little electric assistance.💦

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
