M5 BMW M5 F10 (spy pics & info)

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M
Define "results".

For me I wouldn't care whether the 0-60 time was any better. It's how you get there that counts.

So if getting there was better using the newer 'modified' V8 drivetrain compared to the older V10 drivetrain, would you be happy?

In which case, why are you complaining? I can guarantee that you haven't driven the new BMW M V8TT drivetrain yet.

Feels like you are complaining for the sakes of complaining because there is nothing else to complain about. Why not wait and reserve judgement until you can compare in real life?

Much ignored components inside the engine, exhaust system, gearbox and drive axle alone can make a staggering difference.

Engine components, exhaust, etc., can be changed by tuners. Ecu can be messed with to modify the shifting, etc. It's only about how much money you have. The end result is that with a decent tuner, and smart buying (group buy on forums) you might be able to build a badass 550i way cheaper than it would be to buy an M5. Previously, you couldn't do this because the only way to catch an m5 was to either do a conversion (engine, trans, etc.) or to get FI on your car, which costs upwards of 9K, or more.

There are no doubts in my mind that the F10 M5 will be larger than the sum of its parts and that the 550i will in no way be a substitute for any other than straight speed junkies.

I'm not saying it won't be, but to brush the argument away would be foolhardy. I also made the point about it being a straight-line thing only, but you must understand that most races are straight line highway blasts anyways. I, in no way, condone those races, but that's just how they are done. So, it won't make a stock M5 owner feel special if he gets into a highway blast against a modded 550i who beats him.

Just pointing out a hypothetical here, so don't take this TOO seriously. LOL :D

Personally, I'd rather own the M5 and have all my worries lifted by a factory warranty. ;)

Oh for God's sake. This is just getting so tedious.

This is an internet forum. People give their opinions. Some people like the idea of the new M5. Some people don't.

I voiced my opinion that I don't.

Somebody asked me to explain why. So I did.

Why does that mean I am complaining for the sake of it?

By all means have a different opinion to mine, but when I voice my opinion don't say I'm doing it just to complain. :t-hands:

Is it not possible to accept that somebody doesn't agree with you? Why does there have to be an ulterior motive to me not liking the idea of a TTV8?

Wow, stop being so defensive. Like you said, this is an internet forum, I'm just as entitled to ask to justify your opinion further, just as much as your allowed to voice your opinion. Sure I can accept your opinion, but I've chosen to question it. I'm entitled to that - just as much as you are entitled to answer it or not answer it, or block me.

Simple fact is my question is valid. You clearly stated that you don't care about 0-60 times, you just care about how you arrive there.

If you care so much about the experience/feel of the car, then how you can you say you 'don't like the idea of the new M5', when you haven't driven one? From an objective point of view, isn't that a bit hypocritical?

Your opinion is valued, but your argument is just flawed.

I did that.

When you weren't happy with that, you then accused me of "complaining for the sake of complaining".

That's the point. Now just please, if you want to join the ranks of other people who just want to provoke me/argue with me/wind me up do everyone else a favour and IGNORE ME!!

This is perfection. It's the type of design that at first sight looks familiar and pedestrian but that grows on you with time. While rivals are busy adding vents, creases and additional exhausts on their performance sedans, BMW have crafted a timeless four door family saloon. I'll add myself to the choir of people wishing that the diffuser was black.

I agree with you..

I think the diffuser on the Silver car is Black its just a reflection..

Tomorrow you guys will see photos and videos. hang on.

On a different note, the new M6 sounds awesome! The exhaust note was impressive. How do I know? BMW pulled a shenanigan. While journalists were sitting in the M yard, an M6 camouflaged just happened to pull in and park in front of a garage before driving in. The driver was even more amazing since he decided to rev up the engine a bit :))))

Kinda funny since we were told prior to the event, no photos in the yard :)) and 30 min later, here comes the M6. No photos were taken.

I don't think many caught on the little stunt, but it was funny.

Is it more distinct then the X6M. A friend of mine wasn't too happy with the way his sounded so he put catless downpipes which did help to a certain extent though I hope it will sound much better then this:

I have to say, I think its a good move by BMW to invite people behind websites and forums about bmw.
Does Audi or MB do such things for "ordinary" people?

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
