The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. Now this really makes me p!ssed @ politicians and there money making schemes on automobile-emissions, not that its working - most of the western countries governments are in such bad debt not a trillion Hybrids or EV's are going to save them

1, it's not true, and 2, it does not really contribute to this discussion whatsoever.
Tarek never said anything about Mercedes, he only said that the E60 is a legendary BMW, which it is.
The BMW's sound is much more of a scream while the Mercedes E63's is a growl. They are both very impressive. See for yourself:

His writing never ceases to amaze me and the whole thread has a dark and pessimistic undertones, rightfully so. I truly believe M peaked back in 2004 - 2007 and this S85 engine defines the pinnacle of M as I believe it is truly the best engine M division ever produced.
This is almost like orchestra music. Listen to the sharp contrast with the E63.

As much that I detest the E60's grossly insta-dated looks, it only really looks "at home" when in M5 guise IMO, where it gives the car an almost exotic nature in comparison to the regular E60's. As depreciation starts really setting in, a Used E60 M5 will be one of the best and most exotically powered/performing usable and functional cars on the market.

No doubt. It will be a gem in the future if you are willing to own it along side another car that's less jerky around town. The fuel tank is tiny, consumption high and electronics are complicated. It's as exotic as a Ferrari or Lambo.
