M3/M4 BMW M4 Concept Iconic Lights Revealed At CES

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
I like the front light design but the new backlight inside design sort of reminds me of fish scales, don't think it's very attractive

Very cool presentation, actually the laser light intelligent stuff is very interesting.

BMW presentation is so much more effective and brilliantly executed compared to the dull Audi presentation. The features of its laser lighting and rear OLED are fantastic

BMW announces OLED technology coming to new M model 'in the near future'
Could be the 2016 M2
BMW has disclosed plans to launch a new M model with OLED technology "in the near future."

The spectacular M4 Concept Iconic Lightsdebuted a few days ago at CES with OLED taillights and immediately rumors emerged about the Bavarian marque cooking up a production car with OLED taillights. Now, the company has turned the gossip into reality by announcing through a Facebook post plans to launch an M model with OLED technology.

Without going into details, BMW M says it will be out "in the near future" so chances are the model in question is the M2 which is believed to show up at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show kicking off on September 15 with the first press day.

Aside from the exciting new lighting solution, the M2 promises to be a true driver's car with a six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbo engine outputting around 380 HP (279 kW) which would make it 54 HP (39 kW) more powerful than the M235i Coupe. Production will allegedly commence in November so deliveries should start early 2016.

Its not the M2. Its something else you have not seen yet.
The M2 will get LEDs which the regular F20/F21 will use in the next few days...

Some "journalists" just don't get it. How the heck can you fit OLEDs in an M2 without raising the price above M3/M4 or even close to that?

NO. The OLEDs will come next year in a special M car for the 100th anniversary. We believe it will also have some sort of hybrid technology and TONS of power.

It was never a doubt that OLEDs won't come to M2. That stuff will be hold for high-end BMWs, at least for a while until the prices go down.

Oh, jeez, I can already hear the whine... "but it only has LED, no OLED, waaaaa!"

Don't get me wrong. I had no doubt on your statement. :)

So, OLED rear lights are coming on a M model in the Spring 2016 at latest. What could this be?

How many M models is undergoing road testings right now? Only M2.
Which M models are scheduled for facelift in the above mentioned time period? Only M3/M4.
Which high-end M Performance model is expected in that period? 7er M Performance model: M750.

But it's hard to believe any of them would come with OLEDs.

Special 100-year anniversary BMW M model? ... Where it is? It must be a super-top-secret project - since there's no prototypes anywhere ... and that's just one good year before the scheduled debut. Plausible? Hardly. Such car would require at least 2,5 years of testings.

Also ... the OLEDs have been shown on the M4 Concept car. Coincidently? Hardly.

So, what's the most probable car that will feature the OLED rear lights? A M4 spin-off (GTS? GTR? CSL? CS?) - as a celebratory model for BMW's 100th birthday. Want a supercar? I guess you will get it: in ultra-M4 guise. With tons of CFRP, hi-tech stuff etc. And with a crazy price tag and a limited edition to 100 units. I guess. :D

Anyway ... we'll see the car on the Ring pretty soon ... a matter of weeks, I guess.

I disagree. Concept cars are not being tested. If there is an M car, it will be a concept first. Period. No way the M4 facelift will get OLEDs, current ustomers will be FURIOUS.

Current customers must be used to constant change and upgrades by now?
And current customers won't be furious when they read the car costs twice as much as the M3/4 they bought (Edit; I meant M3/4 CSL, I agree with the facelift not getting them per say)

And BMW could well be testing something on Miramas without anyone knowing.

Those OLEDs don't cost 20k, lol. They're expensive for mass produced cars priced to be competitive, that's about it.

H,

not the M4 LCI ... The M4 spin-off special model only - a special M model as a celebratory model for BMW's 100th birthday.

Official BMW statement says OLEDs will debut in M production model within the next 15 months. Not a concept, not a prototype ... a production model. There's hardly any completely new special M model somewhere waiting in the bushes to debut in early 2016. That's only a bit more than 1 year away - and no prototype nor concept has been seen yet being tested on the roads or the Ring. We know M2 is not getting OLEDs ... so the only M cars that could be ready for Spring 2016 are the M3/M4 LCI models ... and thereof some special spin-offs. Most likely ultra-version of M4 only. That could be done in a year ...

Well, I could argue that laser lights cost 9,800 euros :)

The M3/M4 LCI is not next year. The cars came out in 2014. So at least 2017, likely 2018.

We'll see if BMW wants to put OLEDs on a racing-focused car. My bet is still on a special M car, outside M3/M4.

The F80 M3 is expected to receive its facelift (tail-lift?!) at the same time as the F30 if the previous M3 generations are any indication. The F80 updates are expected to be to tail lights and interior. When the base model receives updates, the M variant have also received updates. M3's have not received true facelifts in the sense that the front of the car does not receive any of the visual updates from the base model. Perhaps this OLED demo is hinting at a change with this generation.

The car will be an edition of a current model (s) will be limited edition and will be announced for the anniversary which will be celebrated in more ways than one. 2016 will see a lot of interesting concepts and models concluding with the all new BMW 5er. So it is going to be a huge celebration and something to look forward to from across the whole BMW group including BMW Motorrad , BMW M,BMWi,MINI and Rolls-Royce.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
