Re: Sportauto: M3 V8 vs CLK63 Black Series

Very impressive lap times for the both.

EDIT: Threads merged. You guys created the same thread at the exact same time.

Mergin threads, me and dede created a thread at same time

EDIT: Bruce, now you and me merged theeads at the same time :D

Can't wait for the M3 CSL and the black series based on the w204. Both will be beasts.

Wow...they install a the rear spoiler of the CLK DTM on the Black Series...maybe for better times at the race track... :D I would be really interested in the data of the "normal" CLK 63 Black Series...

No doubt that a Black series is something special and more exclusive but you have to give it to the M3. Impressive result for a car that cost half the price of that black serie car. Bring on the M3 CSL, should be impressive if the standard M3 is this good.

PS both on semi R-tires.

I am not so sure the result is so good for the M3. I am not really conversant with Hockenheim times. What are times for some more standard competitors such as the E46 M3, RS4 and 997S?

What was the overall conclusion of the comparison?

RING TIME???

EDIT: From Fastestlaps.com:

R8: 1:12.7
996 GT3: 1:13.2
E46 CSL: 1:13.5
M6: 1:14.4
996 Turbo: 1:14.6
360 Modena: 1:15.1
RS4: 1:15.4
e46 m3: 1:16.3

I am not so sure the result is so good for the M3.

1.14,3 min from a 1.6 ton heavy, 420 hp, rear-wheel drived BMW with Cups is more than great! The old one did it in 1.16,3 min. Only the CSL version of the old one was faster with 0.8 s on the same tyres with a weight of only 1421 kg...

About the acceleration: yap, it's not faster to 100 kph than the old one, but over that speed it starts to fly :D
0-200 km/h times:
2007 M3: 15,7 s
2003 M3 CSL: 16,7 s
2000 M3: 17,6 s

Flexibility from 80 to 120 km/h in 6th gear:
2007 M3: 7,2 s :D
2003 M3 CSL: 8,7 s
2000 M3: 9,6 s

:t-cheers:

Yes, now that I have some comparative times (see my post above), I agree the time is very good. :t-cheers:

This is it,guys..CLK with 6,3 V8 and over 500 HP is almost identical as M3 with 4.0 liter V8 and 420 HP..Nuff said..
P.S. : just wait for CSL..Black Series,watch out:D !

Impressive numbers from the M3 if you ask me.
Considering the difference in Engine outputs and the cost of the respective cars, I have to say I am impressed with the M3.

wow the CLK did real good.. im impressed..
cause its a 6 year old chassi...
so i wonder what the new CLK will have in order for us..

This track doesn't reward cars with more power as much as it does with cars with lighter weight...

That my be the case but CLK AMG Black Series should be much more track orientated car than standard M3 IMO,should´t it:t-hands: ?I don´t know,I´m no expert here but I though that difference these two should be greater than it is:eusa_thin .Even standard M is on parr with CLK Black Series..I´m guessing that CSL will crush it´s nutts on the track:D .

This may sound a bit off topic, but you really have to be a big MB fan to purchase a CLK63 Black Series. For it's price, it should be compared to cars like the 997 GT3 or GT3 RS.

The real comparison test for the M3 that EVERYONE is waiting for is against the C63, which is in the same price segment, just like the previous E46 M3 was pitted against the W203 C55 in comparison tests.

Having said that, the laptime around Hockenheim for the E92 M3 is indeed impressive.

Hockenheim isnt about high speeds, it's more important with a good chassi and brakes.

Sportauto's notes regarding Hockenheim:
Unlike the Nordschleife north loop where a clean driving on the ideal line is crucial for a fast laptime, here on Hockenheim a good laptime depend on how hard the driver dare to push the car to the limits.

Extremely late braking and brutal out accelerating from the curves belong to the obligation program. The traction is thereby a very important factor. Since the average speed is relatively low handling is more important than engine performance. Also the efficiency and stability (Fading) of the brakes and transverse accelerations have large influence.

So,I´m guessing that with this test stops bashing on M3´s alleged lack of "drivers car" focus,I´m I right:eusa_thin ?Finnaly,I might add:usa7uh:.
