BMW’s M GmbH high-performance division is considering further low-production derivatives positioned above the its current lineup. Short of a confirmation, BMW spokesman Matt Russell said that the company would “not rule out high-performance, ultra-exclusive derivatives, such as the M3 CSL, which BMW produced more than 1200 units, or the more recent M3 GTS or the M3 CRT, which sold in 140 and 65 units, respectively.
These cars will continue to be standalone products, and there are no plans to launch an ultra-high-performance sub-brand, such as AMG’s Black Series line. “We are not announcing any kind of sub-line or sub-segment, other than M Performance automobiles,” said Russell. The M Performance line, which has been introduced in Europe last year, is positioned below the standard M models and features BMWs with significant performance upgrades engineered by M GmbH. Such a lineup eventually will come to the U.S. market as well.
The hubbub surrounding BMW beginning work on rivals to Benz’s AMG Black Series models stems from tweets courtesy of Automobile‘s Marc Noordeloos. Noordeloos tweeted that during an interview with BMW M execs at this year’s Detroit auto show, he was told to expect one or two special cars arriving stateside in the coming year, and the implication was that those cars would rival the Black Series offerings.

Maybe I am getting old or just lost some passion. But this sh!t really sounds like a "pyramid scheme" or just M-for Marketing....
If the said a new 1M will see the light @ Geneva, I'd say YIPEEEEEEEEEEE!!! For something competing with the AMG Black Series? Yawn:sleep: Buy a second hand Super car and stop fiddling or wasting money on modifications I say....used GT3 Anyone? OR what about a GTR, R8 etc:sneaky:

I think you don't get the point nor does BMW. "Black Series" is AMG's answer to "CSL". I don't know why BMW M now talks about something like that. Give me an M2 CSL, that is all I want, yes really all I need.

Yeah, BMW had it but lost it. BMW has realised that the current direction is profitable so that is here to stay for a while. But the others have found ways to do what BMW did with the CSL badge - with their own flavour, of course - even if we live in different times.

Just look at the new RS4... or R8...

Meh, BMW should just focus on making more X / GT with M badges and superficial engine notes which are enhanced through the car's audio system.

That has to be the best news from ///M division in a long time. I really hope they make it happen & take ///M6 a step above!
