Man if the current TTRS can destroy the competition in a drag race one can only imagine how a lighter next TTRS will be with the extra power its sure to get, easily it will be the one the rest have to beat.

I'm expecting big scalps to taken when it arrives.

No need to wait for it. The Golf R400 is already here :)

do you really think that mercedes or bmw will lose any sleep over ttrs winning drag races?

According to Car&Driver it will hit production :)

That is according to VW R&D Chief simply reported by C&D. But the TT-RS is supposed to be lighter and likely more powerful yet. And is reported to still use the 2.5T instead of the 2.0T in the R400/RS3...

Just lets hope the next TT is more exciting to drive. While the current one is fast its not the most entertaining car to drive. I miss a M235i in this test. It would be intresting to compare M235i with M135i.
Saw my first A45 in traffic yesterday.

Yes. Why do you think AMG is going AWD and BMW M isn't far behind?
Because people is demanding it. But if they really cared about TTRS beating them in a drag race, they would make M1/2/3/4 awd, which they wount, because they dont care about it.

The TT-RS is a dragstrip weapon. A serious one. Not many cars can catch it from 0-50km/h. It's insane.

You really believe that it is because of drag races and not because there is a substantial market for AWD performance sedans, wagons and SUVs especially in places with inclement weather? Their sports cars (AMG GT) and sportier sedans/coupes (M3/4, AMG C) are still RWD.

What happen to AMG in the beginning? Felt like an eternity until it catched that baybimmer!

To me the TTRS was one of those cars that never really entertained on the track yet seemed to by much more enjoyable of the road. You revelled in its performance, its engine and were amazed at its traction. Never met an owner of one which didn't love it to bits.

The great thing is that the Golf R is winning favour with most of the press who are finding it almost as entertaining as the M235i, high praise indeed. Let's hope Audi don't f#ck it up.

Most odd that the car with the second best launch out of the three gets left well behind off the line. Maybe he left the traction control on or something.

They'll get there. It WILL happen. WHEN is the question. There will be a point in time when ALL performance cars will be AWD and DCT. We may not like that but that is going to happen. The more powerful they become and the faster they need to be, the more this will have to occur.

No. I don't believe it is simply because of drag races. It has more to do with getting more power to the ground and more efficiently. The more powerful cars become and the more demand their is for performance, the more AWD (and DCT's) will be needed to net increasingly better results. We may not like it but it will happen.

We are now in a day where Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, and even Porsche are all but completely doing away with manuals. And many of them going AWD. This will merely trickle down to the likes of BMW and Mercedes sooner or later. Audi was just ahead of the game when they discovered this back in the 80's with the original Quattro...

BMW needs it more than anyone as their cars are getting softer, less dynamic, and not much faster. Quickly becoming the LEAST sporting of the 3 performance brands. AMG is already caving. BMW will too.
