3 Series (G20) BMW G20 3 Series LCI - First Official Pics!

The BMW G20 is the seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G20 (sedan), G21 (wagon/touring), G28 BEV (i3), and G28 (long-wheelbase). Predecessor: F30 3 Series. Successor: G50 3 Series. Production: October 2018-2016.
I mourn the abolishment of the gear selector lever.

I am very glad that stupid outdated thing is gone finally. The console looks more modern and clean without it.

A gigatic gear lever in the middle of the console for an automatic box makes no sense anymore, except for the M3/4 perhaps.

One benefit of removing the big gear selector is easier access to the cup holders and storage.

If another facelift is planned, it would be nice if the car had rear wheel steering as an option. It would be fab on the M3 and make the car feel smaller and more agile.

Don't take it personal my friend, but if we are taking about our coffee's comfort and accessibility, over a gear selector, in a thread about a BMW, then the world is going nuts!

It's clearly what the vast majority of people want these days. That's why the cars are becoming more dull and lame every generation.

But a gear selector in a car which only comes with automatic transmissions is also nonsense.

I don't know, it's ergonomically very ingrained since time immemorial... at least in my psyche, the mechanical sensation of going from reverse to D is still delicious, something is something

The Oxford Green M340d.

Even if the gear shift is not selected I like to rest my hand on it when driving, its always so intutive to just grab and move in a jiffy to reverse, instead of having to try and pinch the switch with my sausage fingers and look down to move it. Moving the gearshift over to the left to sports mode manual shifts is a delight. Im going to SA next week and will then drive my E-class and I will have to get used to that column shift.

The column shifters are the worst for me. I don't like the overcrowded look it gives to the steering column and it feels so retro when using it. Granted the only good thing about it is quickly shifting between R and D when tight manoeuvring. My dad's W221 has 4 stalks on the steering column and I hate that look!

Not a fan of the feel either. But looks wise the W221 is the best looking column gear lever by Mercedes.

Great point! With that I think we need to start a new thread for some of the best cars to date (with emphasis on driving predominantly)

Other than that new screen the 3 has reached a perfection point. M340i in particular.

Absolutely. The LCI G20 is peak BMW.

I Can't think of any other recent bimmer except the E46 M3 and 2nd gen X5 that have looked this well good looking proportionate from any angle.
