Vs BMW fans wont be happy - M6 vs SL55

The facelifted SL55 with the new engine (517p) has beaten one of best BMW handing cars in a germancarmag.

Auto Zeitung sees the advantage of the M6 in the lower acquisition costs (24.500,-- € ceaper), the larger trunk, the 195 kg higher load capacity, and the existing back seats but SL55 offer better comfort and better brakes. SL55 is faster around their test track (1.5 sec faster than the M6). The M6 suffers from understeering and power-oversteering.

0-100 km/h M6=4,5s : SL55=4,5s
0-200 km/h M6=13,2 s : SL55=13,0s

I always knew the Sl55 was a great handling car but Im shocked and happy for MB fans that the facelifted SL55 did so well. Now I hope Sportauto test the car one day around their tracks.

cool.. just an OT question..ive seen many dyno test of M engine especially the M6/5 engine.. i dont think its 507hp.. its more like 512.-517 what do you guys think.. i belive BMW underestimated the engine

What I suprise, I have all ways seen the SL55 as a cruise car. Kudos to MB for improvign the SL.

I've heard that most brands overestimate their figures, but that Porsche on the other hand are known to really underestimate.

I am really happy about this result as well, but that bit about the M6 being more fun to drive worries me. Driving pleasure is the most important thing in a car imo. But I'm pretty sure a propper gearbox would take car of that in the SL. I still prefer the SL over the M6 though

Yea the SL55 could definitely benefit from a Nice Manual and some lighter weight, its still a pig car to drive compared to any M car...

Nothing thats says that MB dont do such things Anyway over at m5board.com people have dynoed their car, some of them stronger than expected but some of them weaker than expected so the horses obviously change from car to car.

Rember this is one test and I dont think M6 and SL55 will be compared very often, the fight will be between CLS63 and M6 now BMW need to bring us a Roadster (ala Z8) to compete with the SL. The Roadster Enilab posted.

yeah it is supposed to be on th new S65 to.. plus the S class allready is reported to be a good handler.. cant wait see tests of that beast

W0W! that is amazing news! We MB fans should praise the gods of the automotive race for gifting the SL55 with new track talants!!. I told you guys when MB does a face-lift thay do more than just add a new engine when that time comes along. The new SL has recieved a new faster steering rack, faster reacting brakes and an enhanced ABCII suspension! the new formula has worked against the enemy
dispite the SL`s weight. 1.5 seconds faster! thats really impressive!!

OT: I hope this formula works for the face-lifted E-Class as well as the new E63 and the other 63 models!!
