Vs BMW F10 5-series vs. Mercedes W212 E-Class (photo comparison)

That is just... HORRID. Bloody horrid.

I never said it was nice. I was just trying to find pics of the E with bigger wheels. To be honest all opinions are just personal taste. There will be BMW fans out there who dont like the new 5er and MB fans who dont like the new E class. Every person in this world is different but then there are some who are blinded by their favourite brands and will never say a rival car looks better, drives better or is made of better quality etc even if they are proved wrong. But if your asking a german car fan then you would find the majority telling you that both cars look great and have their own unique strengths and selling points

Add one more to the new 5 series chorus, although it does not really break any super creative new ground in design, it is a good looking car. The E is just a little off in its design elements, has a bit too much going on and looks confused in what it is trying to be and to be honest is a bit gaudy. :t-hands:

I still vote for the 5, but couldn't they have chosen a better fracking color to present both of these cars in, especially the "Old people Gold" on the E, that' just simply horrid.

both the interiors are stunning. You couldn't go wrong with either one of them!
I like the look of the benz seat adjustment console, but I think the BMW one is easier to operate without looking.

Im also glad that BMW reverted back to the orthodox located gear shifter after the E65. I love that futuristic look of it.

The BMW seat adjustments are not easier to operate. You can't see them like you can on the Mercedes. It's a matter of cost. The BMW's seat-located seat adjustment console is cheaper than the Mercedes'.

With either BMW and Mercedes, INTERIOR PART-SHARING IS RAMPANT!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP NOW. I'm gonna take a baseball bat to Sindelfingen if the next SL shares any interior parts with the SLS.

E class looks better HANDS DOWN!! Did i forget to say IMO ???

Notice the E class is not even the sport version, and those wheels are small in comparison to the larger 5er wheels, and it still looks better !!!!!

lol Mii I'm confused. Is that what the reviewer stated? Are you the reviewer? Or are you drawing conclusions from the photos? :t-hands:

I wish I could read German :-(

You can tranlate it with Google translate
They say that E-Class looks more spacious, the entrance into the back seat is more comfortable.

I just read most of the comments in this thread, and I have to say its unbelievably ridiculous what some people have to say just to get their points clear !! All of a sudden the E is an Ugly and boxy car just to prove that the 5er looks better, and others that start by saying the E class looks good in THESE PHOTOS, then they say the 5er just looks better with a small bashing note at the end saying the E class looks boxy ..

Well I have to agree that the 5er does look like an enlarged 3 series, but that is not necessarily a bad thing if you love BMW cars, but I cant wait to see how much that note shows in real life, because I know its going to look like a 3er from far like I know the back of my hand ...

No car is flawless, and if a car were so, i dont think it'll look good put together. The verdict here for me is : We got ourselves a true E class for all that it can be, and the 5er is just another BMW 5 series with no soul ... And im going to keep saying this until I see BMW go back to their core foundation ..

Thank you !!

Wow, what a surprise: BMW Fans say the 5-series look better, and MB fans say the E-class looks better. Ahh well, as least we know the universe is still in balance and all is well.

I am curious have you can be so sure about a car having no soul, when:
A) you haven't even seen it in the flesh
B) you haven't even driven it
C) you haven't done a back to back comparison to the E.

As much as your post implies your hate for BMW fanboyism, you do realise that your post reeks of MB fanboyism right? Which incidently is just as bad.

Besides, if I am to believe the media that supposedly objective on these matters, then German cars as a whole have no soul. Sure their built like tanks, pieces of engineering brilliances, showcases of technology. But definitely not known for their soul.

Personally I like the 5er more, since it suits the type of car I like: sporty. But the MB has it place in terms of elegance, which caters towards a different audience. That's how it should be and that's how it's always been.

They said the E offers more space in the back despite being shorter. They also said it offers more space in the front due to the center console being thinner.

Thanks Omarus. Do they say which is ACTUALLY more spacious?

AutoBild's E-class vs 5er comparison summary (in English):

They say E feels more spacious , despite space figures are comparable. The writer is disappointed by interior space in 5er since he expected much more - based on huge wheelbase (10cm = 4 inch longer than E's wheelbase). Also the rear entrance is easier in E than in 5er, and the E's front feels more spacious due to less massive central console.

They say E interior looks less elegant & dull compared to 5er one. 5er interior is more of a looker than the E's interior, they say. Very nice detailing in 5er interior, and clever functionality (ergonomics). They say it 5er interior looks expensive.

They say 5er looks splendid, describing 5er exterior look as beautiful. Saying F10 is the most impressive 5er ever. They love the proportions - long hood, long wheelbase & short overhangs, and the curvy roof line. They love clear lines, elegant rear & sculptured flank. They didn't quite like the front - the creases on the nose.

They say 5er looks very good but that doesn't mean that E looks bad. The E dropping shoulder line makes the E dynamic, and the boxiness gives it an utterly solid feeling / look. Very impressive, but not as intense (dynamic, interesting?) as 5er. They also say E looks more compact (indicating the 5er looks stretched).

They also described 5er also as "Techno-overkill" - being packed with all the superb tech stuff (HUD, side-view cameras, parking assistant etc).

Their Conclusion: 5er is a typical BMW - packed with great technology & engineering, great looking, and it communicates core BMW brand values. Something that was missing in previous BMW cars (the Bangle ones). Interior space is just ordinary although the huge wheelbase indicates otherwise. With new 5er on scene the MB star "looks less bright", but it shines on and in its very own way. The choice between E & 5er is a question of characters.

:t-cheers:

As I said to you many times: it's old battle all over again. E with angular solid stance, 5er with curvy dynamic one. E looking sturdy, 5er more sporty-elegant. Both looking great - with different characters. E interior feeling more spacious & airy, 5er more sporty-claustrophobic. E interior looking more utilitarian & robust, 5er more elegant & classy.

whats wrong with the front seats have you ever sat in one or driven one mate...i guess not...

Like I said, "look right out of the 80s". I didn't know I had to sit in one to see how it looks. I am sure they are very comfortable to sit on.

To me, the 5er is downright perfect for what I'd want in a car....4 doors, graceful and sporty coupe-like proportions, upscale detailing.

The E-class with 18-inch wheels looks better in real life. I like the upright, boxy look since a Mercedes-Benz ought to look like it was chiseled from a solid block of granite. But what takes away from that solid look are those clumsy sweep lines above the wheel that try to evoke pontoons from MB's of yore. It's the same thing for the S class for me...if it wasn't for those over-embellished fender flares, I'd think the S would be perfect. The 5er, on the other hand, has those 2 character lines, the shoulder line and the line at the bottom of the doors, which make things interesting enough but not too over the top. I really think that the F10's design will stand the test time better than the W212. In fact, like K-A and Merc1, I think the W211 as well the 2 previous gens are lookers compared to the W212. The W210 and W124 were upright, but simpler and thus more regal. When AMG worked its magic on those cars, it looked unfussy and all-business.

To summarize my ramblings, they both play to their strengths, but I think the 5er just does a better job of it while the E-class does it but you can see the effort of trying to live up to its intended ideals.

I was talking about the blinged up E-Class.
