M3/M4 BMW E90 M3 Sedan (Official pics & info)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

The speculation, spy shots, and waiting are finally over - the BMW M3 Sedan is here. In the thirteen years since the first M3 Sedan debuted, much has changed. Developed from the ground up as a separate car, the M3 Sedan bears several unique features and key differences from the M3 Coupe. The new M3 Sedan also shares very little in common with the standard 3-series saloon, unlike the previous generation. Despite these differences, what’s most remarkable about the Sedan is how much it manages to stay true to the Coupe’s performance-focused design.

Sharing only the load-bearing structure, doors, roof, trunk lid, windows, and rear lights with the regular 3-series saloon, the M3 Sedan does without the carbon-fiber roof of the Coupe. The front end of the Coupe and Sedan are nearly identical, both featuring the prominent hood bulge to accommodate the new engine and gill-like M-style side slits. The wider fenders, quad-pipe exhaust, and aggressive ground-effects package are also common to both body types. The most visually impressive aspect of the Sedan is how well the extended roof-line mates with the overall feel of the Coupe - no artificial lengthening or stretched proportions to be found. Just pure, smooth, sexy lines.

Despite sharing a stock roof with the standard 3-series saloon, the M3 Sedan’s aluminum chassis and other weight-saving measures help it weigh in at 1605kg (3531lb), within 50kg (110lb) of the Coupe. Powered by the same 420hp 4.0L V8, the Sedan posts similar performance statistics as well: 100km/h (62mph) comes in just 4.9s, top speed is electronically limited to 155mph, and fuel consumption is the same at 12.4L/100km (19mpg US). The same Variable M-Differential Lock from the Coupe ensures power from the fast-revving F1-inspired V8 reaches the ground with maximum effect.
Contrary to our previous speculation, the M3 Sedan will not feature BMW’s new paddle-shifted dual-clutch DSG-style gearbox, aka M-DCT, offering only a six-speed manual instead. It’s astounding that BMW is not going to offer any sort of automatic transmission option at launch, considering the saloon is aimed at moving people not just in speed, but comfort.

A wide selection of interior color and material options will be available. The base interior combination of cloth and leather will be upgradeable to high-grade Novillo leather, in black, Palladium Silver, Bamboo Beige, and Fox Red. The center console is lined in black leather - no cheap plastics here - continuing the luxury-sport marriage that defines the M3. The sport-themed interior is carried into the rear seats, giving each occupant the full M3 experience. Completing the conversion to grand-tourer is a deluxe sound system delivering 825W through 16 speakers, complete with speed-related volume and equalization controls.

I think the rearlights looks alright becuase the M3 looks more muscular and beefy but of course it will be better whit the facelift.
I dont understand why they already release a 4-door. I thought there is a facelift coming soon.
Anyway, I like the rear better then C63. The complete bodykit look better than C63, C63 bodykit is to fussy for my taste. But why oh why cant bmw take press shots like MB did with C63.

wow many new pics..
and still it looks bad..
but why?
personally i have never hated the rear of the 3er and still dont..
so its not that for me..

but something is wrong with this one certainly..it might take me some time to pinpoint the location of the problem..

ile keep in touch:D

pressshots should be with interlagosblue, not silverstone

I think there will be no facelift for M3 Sedan, the same as it was with M3 Coupe. What a pity that BMW haven't changed the rearlights when they have already changed the whole front :t-banghea I hoped that the M3 saloon will show us some parts that would be used in E90 LCI version :(

i think ive pinpointed one of its problems..

They did not update the car.. so it looks aged, especially compared to a spanking new C wich the C63 is based on.. so thats a problem

one can say that the case would be same with the RS4, but oh-no..
cause Audi updated the A4 ( HEAVILY) and then released the RS4..
if they where to do like BMW and release it in this body ( see picture below)
they would be in the same deep shit...

In my opinion, the car is a bit plump - it looks like this. The profile of the car - especially the rear windows - underline this effect as well. :t-cheers:

Oh, E90 or E92? Both are really nice! At first i thaugt the four door wuld look lame, well, we can all see that this was not the case! It looks absolutely great! It has more of a f**k off look than the E92...

^yeah it looks short and stubby..
its like a picture of car you downsize to much.. it just gets wierd..

^sorry cant explain it better

PS
Does it have a longer hood than the normal 3er?

I dont think M3 and standard E90 will have different rearlights. I believe M3 will follow facelifted E90

to further stress my point about the car looking very dated ( due to not being FL) ile post this

PS
they look about the same age..
or dear i even say the RS4 looks fresher

But Audi went from B6 (really dated by then) to B7 when they released the RS4, did they not?

M models traditionally are released a year after standard model, so the m3 sedan is kinda late already, and facelift should be MY2009, which is way too late, so I guess they had no option but to bring out the car now.
Maybe when the facelift comes it will get the new tail lights, like the E46 M3 coupe got new rear LED lights but same front end.

I agree these pics are a bit disappointing, the shadowline package doesn't really show up, it looks more like a 320i with plastic side window surroundings, these pics just don't show the gloss... The press pictures of the M3 coupe was much better, these are merely on normal on road shots which a journalist can do..

that i dont know..
but it was a FL it was not a new car totally
but ofcourse i get your point.. the audi FL was a huge one..
BMW will never do such a heavy FL and they dont need to..
but an update would have helped it.. ( or atleast i hope it will help it)

I'm 100 % sure the facelift will include the M3 Sedan as well. BMW did try the 3 Series Coupe facelift features on the E46 M3 but weren't satisfied with the looks of it. That's why it didn't get the facelift like the other 3er Coupes. The E39 M5 was facelifted and the current M5 just recently got the same facelift like all 5 Series cars so no doubt the M3 sedan will get the facelift when it comes next year.

It was a huge FL, that is for sure, if they change the model code. But i agree, it was not a completely new car, many things were the same but it was a big change for the better!

pinpointed another problem with this car..

Check out the interior.. guud damn.. its so boring...
its like the C63 interior.. its even more boring really..
doesent give a clue in the world despite some small badges here and there that its a M interior..:(

Funny, Artist that you post a picture where you compare RS4 front with the M3 front because that's the newest part of the car. We haven't seen that front for even a year now and you say it looks dated. Sorry but that's funny as hell. :D If there is something on the 3er sedan that is starting to look dated, it's the rear lights which BTW are currently the only rear lights in the BMW lineup that don't have LEDs. But that will be corrected with the facelift next year.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
