Does this mean it is coming the to the US? Much of that video was in the US.

Separately, sweet avatar! You've got me very interested. Is that the new 2 series or Z?

Well, Supervan would probably be a more appropriate word. Whatever, soon you will finally be able to smoke Audi RS', AMGs and Porsches on the drag strip and beat them around the race track, and turn heads going to the cafe, while bringing with your wife and your five kids all along with you, and all this only sipping fuel, not drinking. It is also the ultimate tool for the Drift-Kings.

Seriously, what did you expect?

The Active Tourer will be available as two different wheelbases as per the demands of the segment and in the Asian market and if many of you removed your plush S-Klasse butt plugs then somebody would have posted that the same is already on the way for the Mercedes-Benz B-Klasse but some decided to ignore that altogether even though the S-Klasse would have been partly funded by the successful sales of the B-Klasse.

Why? This segment is growing and by 45% per year which is why you will be seeing more premium manufacturers enter this segment.
The production model of the Active Tourer potentially has the same outlook as the first generation E53 X5 to provide a successful new niche for BMW.

Active Tourer vs Gran Tourer?

Odd: both trademarks are still registered only as 2er Active Tourer & 2er Gran Tourer. o_O

Is this the ultimate driving machine?

I was thinking more like "The Penultimate Driving Machine".

Scott the difference between Mercedes doing this and BMW doing this is that Mercedes didn't pump out ads for years stating that they were better because they only made RWD cars.

Blah, blah, blah.......

I actually fell asleep before reading the end of your post. It's just so dull and tedious reading another lightly disguised propaganda/press release about "markets" and segments "growing" and a "new niche" for BMW. New niche? It's a people carrier. Ever heard of the Renault Espace? BMW are about 25 years too late!!

But MB can get away with it because they also produce the SLS AMG including a Black Series model.

I believe that is the best way to sum up this topic.

First of all, Renault "invented" this segment, which is highly profitable ever since. I don't know if you (plural) have any experience with a Renault Scenic or Espace, but both models are the definition of practicality!

Then again, when I think of BMW is still think of a company that used to swear by the "true power can't be compressed" and the "sheer driving pleasure" motos. It's not easy to accept so many changes in so little time. The easiest ways to accept these changes is to stop car and focus your enthusiasm somewhere else.

Levi, you win the "Thread of the year" award!
Now back to my award! Thanks BMW for making it so easy to forget that you ever existed... ohh just that stupid 2-Series still pulling me back... please make an M version of the next 12 seater and let me go! :mask:

Its just dull and tedious to me replying back to those that cannot or choose not to read. A new niche FOR BMW means for BMW. I was not referring to a new niche in general.
But you know what everyone just please click ignore it will save us a whole lot of this bullshit.

It would appear to me that a BMW Active Tourer would quickly find an abundance of customers here in the EU. I do not perceive this line of cars as a risky proposition for BMW.

The genuinely large risk for the company is the upcoming i line (i3, lesser so i8) of automobiles. A risk that may or may not pay handsome dividends. But as they say: "No risk-No fun"...

But as they say: "No risk-No fun"...

Why don't they take the risk to build a supercar? Every freaking company has, and even found it really fun continues (think of Mercedes SLR, now SLS and then SLC). Even the forever gone NSX is coming back as a "new era supercar". Even Hyundai has a concept that is far from being rediculous.

Plush + S-Class + butt plugs, really SCOTT27? Are you that offended by us German Car Fans gushing over what is one of Germany's most revered and respected automotive icons?

I'm sure BMW CM has given a good stab at trying to divert attention elsewhere but this is just uncouth and unbecoming for a so called BMW brand evangelist.

A larger 2 seat coupe + canvas-topped roadster based on a shortened version of BMWs' 5/6/7 platform WOULD be kind of nice...

This thread his hilarious.

BMW CM has been so hard at work to detract from the S-class release.

Posts about the 'i' series, and then a BMW Pininfarina concept that will probably never see the light of day apart from some styling cues on the next 7, and then the 2 series 'leaks'.

At least Audi had the decorum to sit this one out and watch.

I agree Martin... and also accusing people of not being able to read after posting an ambiguous comment. If he really is representing BMW here, then this is not a professional manner to communicate with (potential) customers. Nobody else here (afaik) is purporting to represent their employer with what they write. Most people would be fired if they talked to their customers like this.

I was reacting in a similar vein to your completely unnecessary attack on the S-Class and MB and the people who find that car a little more interesting than an FWD MPV from BMW.

This is a car forum Scott. If you choose to enter the hornets as BMW creative marketing then you have to be prepared to get stung once in a while.

Two excellent posts and said in a much more eloquent way than I could ever achieve.
