BMW Compactive Tourer - spy pics & info

It's all black or white for you, isn't it?

Why can't there be a sporty FWD? Have you driven a Peugeot 106 Rallye? A Mini Cooper S?

Also, why does an MPV type of a vehicle, even with a BMW badge have to be RWD? People will buy it because they need a spacious car and they want to pay premium for the badge. It's their problem. RWD won't make a difference, but a nice, informative steering and a sporty feel will be enough to justify the premium price tag.

Let's not forget the Renaulsport Megane which bangs the Toyobaru without telling it "I love you" :D

I have absolutely no worries about the new FWD 1 Series ( ...... whatever it turns out to be called ). Why? Its based on the next MINI which is going to be around 100-150KG lighter than the current one, which is one of the best driving hatches, period. It will have small, incredibly efficient, torquey and powerful engines ( relative to its 1.5 L capacity obviously :D ). It will greatly boost BMW sales ( BMW are very proud of the fact that they're the worlds best-selling premium car manufacturer and to not want to relinquish that title to ever-more competitive Audi ) , and it will be safe and well-built. I
dont even mind that much that its FWD. The packaging benefits are immense, it makes it lighter and 99% of prospective owners wont even now what RWD stands for. And BMW have already shown they can make a FWD car handle with the MINI hatches. I even have a feeling it will be better than the F20..... now all they have to nail is the looks. Fingers crossed!

The sketch is what happens when you spend more than a few minutes on putting something to paper quickly.

Like any sketch whether in automotive , architectural or even interior design you first sketch your idea , only when you are happy with that idea you can begin to make it more realistic in terms of proprtions , height, light , packaging , surface elements etc. till eventually you end up with something resembling the description of the marketing brief.
Sometimes sketches lure you into a self-style of belief that this car is going to really , really sleek. (think of the first Panamera sketches) and then once you have to take aerodynamics and packaging into consideration it comes out the opposite you initially expected.

The BMW Compactive Sport Tourer has to be tall in order to suit the required interior packaging , light is extremely important to this car so an effective glasshouse helps to shrink down some of the overhangs. A typical BMW sloping roof identifies the sporting character of the BMW philosophy. The front design inherits the classic BMW impression of double headlights and a slightly less wide but more taller kidney grille that lay its intentions that although the drivetrain is different we still have a BMW right down to that wheel at each corner look.
The surface work and initial characterline reminds us that this is a part of the 1er family so elements are inherited and interpreted into a larger concept. The main purpose of the Compactive Sport Tourer is increased space helped by the move to FWD so space is better used all around the interior.
The drivetrain also lends itself to the MINI brand which will allow the engineers to tune the car's dynamics to each of their brands expectations for BMW it has been a tough nut to crack but the engineers have come to a satisfactory conclusion that typical BMW sporting character is not lost in the translation to FWD.

The CST will also share its DNA with the MINI Traveller a car that will disguise its shared platform , electronics , engines etc but will receive its own bespoke appearance of typical MINI design and bespoke switchgear.
Individuality is key for both vehicles to successful with the customer who could be choosing such a vehicle as their first BMW or MINI product.

I have hope that at least maintained the idea of the front drawn on the sketch.
the CST appear in one to two weeks in concept version, and the traveler when?

It's not too late, BMW, you can still pull the plug! You're already successful enough, please don't pollute your ultimate passionate vision!

That is a very detailed cutaway to be faked.

They looked genuine and leaked. What an absolute mess.

I don't think it's a genuine cutaway. Gut feel tells me they've gotten hold of a Countryman cutaway* and superimposed it with their own (rather nasty) chop which in itself is an F20 that's been - ahem - compacted.

* I can't yet find the exact image but I'm pretty sure that it's the source.

Phew that front makes the 1 series look like a beauty...No ways will BMW make a car look like that.

I guess the engine cover should be there, and it should say "BMW TwinPower Turbo", but it's missing.

I am in no doubt that the cutaway is that of a Countryman S 2wd but do you think I can find that darned image? Useless google.

I love it. I will trade my my M5 for 3 of those.

thank you BMW for fulfilling my needs.

If real then this is how to end your design career is one single sketch. Who thought the 1 series was ugly, well think again. :ROFLMAO: The rest of the industry breathes a sigh of relief. :joyful:

The shocker is that there is nothing about this design that's remotely interesting or pleasant on the eye. :wtf:

P.S.
Could Mods remove the front view picture from Ascari's post as I am becoming quite nauseous. (y)

I can't find one either. What I did find was a photo of a Mini engine, and it's identical to the one in this cutaway. I seem to remember the Compactive Tourer would use Mini engines though so maybe it doesn't prove anything. The thing is, even if it is fake, the real deal may look just as bad. However, the more I look at them the more I'm convinced they're fake. The front end on photo; it actually wouldn't look that bad but the front wheel is too small proportionally, and that looks like it's due to it being a photoshop. I'm going to wait until Klier comes into the thread and states that it's "clearly a freaking photoshop" before I'm fully satisfied though.

I do not understand you. This car can be successful if the price will not too high. :)

Clearly a freaking photoshop :)

It's a VERY poorly chopped up F20, everyone can see that.

I do not understand you.

You don't understand that this thing here is ugly beyond believe? And that everybody here thinks that?
