Comparison tests BMW 640d Gran Coupe vs rivals

Disagree, the worst model changeover in design terms, actually disaster at that ever from Stuttgart is the current CLS. Vulgar is nice word! I myself couldn't help but to fall in love with the first gen CLS and the idea of the new niche. 2nd generation did the total opposite. The A7 is one fine, very fine design. The 6er GC is my favourite BMW design currently and if it wasn't for the Aston Rapide, the 6GC would be No.1. Takes 2nd spot at "4 door coupes" (hate the term) vs the Aston. So its Rapide, 6GC, Maserati QP, A7 and ...

No not even last place for the CLS.
I can't understand Audi's design, i find them all bad looking, hard to distinguish from another, and their interior is so sad looking :(.
Even though I do not like the 6'sGC design, I can see why people could like it.
And of course the Aston Martin and Maserati are gorgeous <3, but considering the price, the Merc is still the best quality/price car, and the shooting break is outstanding :)

IRL I find the A7 a sight to behold, beautiful design IMO. Unfortunately the A7's interior is worst quality IRL, the center console (back towards the armrest part) and knee rests both sides of the transmission tunnel is VAG standard stock hard-hollow plastic:( Copy+Paste stock A6 Sedan at that. (makes me wonder still why people sh!t their pants about the 4 Series cabin that looks like the F30's, guess they need something to cry about, fact is Audi does it with the A6/A7:rolleyes:)

CLS, I may despise the looks but you have to be blind not to see the absolute cabin perfection in terms of perceived and tactile quality - superb!!! Also not an E-class copy+paste job.(y)

And off coarse the 6 GC is pure undiluted perfect stitched Nappa-perfection, with the best looking doors! The Rapide is simply in a class of its own. Whilst the Maserati QP's cabin looks dull by both CLS, 6GC and Rapide in comparison and FIAT switchgear and controls is poor taste IMO.

Inbetween we have the 'cat amongst the pigeons' the Porsche Panamera, my goodness it's just...Porsche Perfection Personified. I like it form 'tip-to-tail' and yes, I am one of but a few, I just don't give a rats ass, I LOVE IT!

Well, it's all a matter of taste, so of course, there are people, like you, who like it. IMO, the Panamera could've been great looking if it wasn't for the rear.. It's got a fat rear, and ruins the rest for me :(
But, there's no denying it's an excellent car.
The same goes for the 6GC, I just find the rear end of the car artificial and bad looking.
I don't know why but it seems to me that most designers are having a hard time designing the rear of modern cars :(.
Well, as for interiors, most manufacturers are copy+pasting elements from their other models (for example the E46 3 series' interior looked almost identical to the E39 5 serie :P)

more like e38 was almost identical to e39, e46 not su much, even tho they all looked familiar

I'm sorry Mr Human, but no, the Audi A7 doesn't look special at the same level as 6GC and CLS. It just another damm FWD proportions Audi with a fastback roof.

I HATE CLS side detailing and the lack of coherence between front and rear design languages, but the proportions, and overall silhoutte are best in class IMHO. The 6GC is the better resolved as it comes as a much harmonious design (there are no ugly elements in it) and the sharky profile is just sublime.

The Audi is another run of the mill aproach IMHO, again.

For all the contenders, as mentioned the 6GC & Rapide has it in the bag.(y)

I do like the A7, IRL its tight very low profiled car (cabin lacks totally in the quality stakes though)

CLS, man how you can ruin near perfection from 1st to 2nd generation. One Benz that is ugly, the CLS is IMHO.

The above is a repost basically or repeating myself - but I am talking the Gianclaudio here:p

I agree they went down from 1st to 2nd gen CLS, but like I said before, the problem is the detailing (mainly those Zorro inspired side lines) but the overall shape of the car is fantastic, the hood seems to be longer than an airport.
But back to the A7, where is the "coupé" in this thing?:

Here's the thing about the A7 (I talk to customers A LOT about this car):

Not all people find it pretty, but EVERYBODY stops what they're doing and looks at the car. It's a very extravagant design that catches the eye whether they love it or hate it. Few cars have a presence like the A7. In that aspect Audi nailed the design. People talk about it all the time at shows and usually it is the car we get the most feedback on, even more than the R8.
