I just checked the FuelEconomy.gov website and the American Enviromental Protection Agency - EPA rates the 535i F10 at 24 MPG (29 MPG UK) combined fuel economy.

So what does that mean? It means the 535i is more economical than the Audi A6 3.0 TFSI V6 and Infiniti M37 both rated at 21 MPG, Lexus GS 350 at 22 MPG and the Mercedes-Benz E350 at 19 MPG.

One thing that I know for sure, when it comes to turbo engines:

If you are gentle with the gas pedal, you can get close to factory consumption numbers. But step on the gas, and it drinks gasoline, faster than a drunk Irish man drinks Guinness :D
