5 Series BMW 5 Series GT (aka PAS) - spy pics & info

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.
Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

Benz has been in the truck segment till the beginning so it does not hurt their image, it is part of it.

The A and B, for me, have hurted the Benz image. Seems that Benz are not willing to replace the A-Class...

I am not full of "prejudices", I just give my opinion. A big fat van, for me, even with a complex design, is not what I would say "sporty", that's all. A big fat SUV not more.

The X6 is much more sporty-looking than the X5 in my opinion, so let's wait for the design, but the pics does not look sporty.

That's all.

They already felt in love with the X3...:D

Know what? I think the Board of Directors of BMW needs new glasses, and rather quickly!!! :D

Yeah..., you are right & you never know...but recently I have very high confidence in the design capabilities of BMW :eusa_pray

But looking at the spy pics, I think the proportions are OK and I don't see that ugly back hidden under the cladding..in the worst case they could just leave the cladding on...:D

I guess you have very rich & wild imagination being able to conclude there is a "big fat van" behind that camo. :eusa_thin

Look closely at F5 spy pics - rear part of the roof, tail, front, sides --- all parts under a heavy camo. Recall the first prototypes of X6 with all the heavy camo - did you expect a car like presented in X6 Concept was hiding behind? I bet you didn't. :usa7uh:

You'll be surprised when a real car (or a Concept) is presented. It looks very sporty.

Btw, forget that Huckfeldt's CGI. the rear is completely wrong. The only correct thing is that F5 really looks much more like fastback than the initial RFK CGI.

Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

I don't like the car, but I just want to say that the X6 did not look that good on PS and spy-pics, but turned to be one of the most beautiful SUV on the market today.

If you like the current BMWs, if you like the X6, if you like the CS-Concept, I think you will like this car. Even if its big proportions may not will look as good as these cars.

Too bad I only like one of those cars, I surely won't like the F5...:D

Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

In relation to the 5er wagon, how will th F5/V5 differ? Yes it will have a more coupe-ish design, but will it be placed above the 5er wagon or semi-compete with it? (ala X5 vs X6 - different, but sill semi-compete)

Are there plans to eventually phase out the 5er wagon and just offer the V5?

Any timeframe for debut? before or after F01 7er debut ?

Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

I'm not totally sure about this ambitious model range expansion either.

I first read that as 'amphibious' and thought that BMW is really examining all possible niches. :D

I'm sure they are working on it. I can already see the the new company slogan: "The Ultimate Diving Machine". :t-hihi:

After seeing this pic, I think BMW should buy rights for the Q5 name from Audi. Why? Because this should be called the Q-Series (Q=Quasimodo).

Coming in Spring 2009. So, after F01 7er.

5er Touring staying, but turning into even more sporty vehicle - more shooting-brake-ish.

F5 will have much more space inside than 5er (Touring) - comparable space to F01 7er. Yet it will be more versatile than Sedan/Touring/SUV. Price? Probably tad higher than 5er Touring.

LuxurySportsCruiser = MPV Gran Turismo (MPV Coupe)

SportsActivityCoupe = SAV Coupe (SAV Gran Turismo)

:t-cheers:

Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

The car looks closer to Panamera than anything else - not sure if that is good or bad.

Yes. Both reflect hatchback / fastback shape. Yet Panamera is way lower than F5.

But a 4dr coupe family by BMW will be really fascinating.

4dr coupe SAV: X6 SAC (+ X4)
4dr coupe MPV: F5 LSC (+ F3)
4dr coupe GT: 8er CS (+ ???)

Btw, I'm reposting old AutoBild info incl Huckfeldt's impressions:

Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

So it will be a four-seater?? Like the R-Class???
I don't think it is a good idea; however it will have a fifth "emergency" seat, so it is okay, but...

It could explain a part of the R-Class failure, let's see if the fifth seat in the R-Class boosts the sales.

Will it be available as a seven-seater? Could make sense, as I think the X5 can't be a seven seater (or can it? I think no, but not sure of that).

Yep, the new X5 can become a 7-seater unlike its predecessor or the new X6. There's no way this LSC/V5/F5 can be a 7-seater with such a sloping rear-end.

So the F5 is basically a 5er Touring but an X6 rear window (in terms of the slope of the rear window). It's also going to be more luxurious than 5er Touring.... so it's pretty much an R-class but with a sportier look and feel.

* BTW, that Porsche Panamera looks like a piece of crap from side-profile. Reminds me of the Dodge Magnum - otherwise known as the frog-like hearse!

Re: BMW F5 LuxurySportsCruiser - first spy pics!!!

to my mind, Huck`s very close

Yeah? :D Cool :D
I somehow think the baclights we are seeing is what we will have on the real car too, more or less. All the CGIs so far are having this overall shape!

HUck's always close, but somehow the real car looks completely different because of a lot of small detail differences. Take the X6 for example. Huck made this a looong time ago (way before FEP testing started), and it's pretty spot on:
