The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.

Why does BMW constantly feel that lower end models need headlights large enough to be caricatures of themselves?

The 2GC makes it UK debut this week and I have seen it. To sum it up, it very striking from the front and has sexy frameless doors. If you want something different than a hatchback then this is the car of choice. However there is a bit sacrifice in versatility.
Both the 1-Series and 3-Series have usable rear headroom with the former more versatile in transporting big or bulky objects.
Good
-The front end design is superb. I consider it one of the best of any BMW. Headlights are distinctive and the nose is low. I genuinely had a "wow" moment when a saw the red 218i.
-I was delighted that the rear isn't as bulky as it comes across in photos. It's not graceful but I could live with it.....just about.
Bad
-BMW need to ditch the grey accents on all mlite models or offer black packs globally. On the 235i, they look ghastly and tacked on.
-3/4 quarter view reminiscent of small cheap Korean sedans.
-Headroom in the rear is appalling. Is not the car of choice if you regularly use the rear seats.
-The 1-Series has superior tailgate opening and a more practical boot.

Hahaha. It's not as bad as the X6 that looks as awful in real life as it does in photos. With the 2GC GranCoupe I'm conflicted. The front half of the car looks much better in person than in photos. However the rear half looks disgraceful from some angles.

I won't be surprised if we start to see 1ers with retrofitted fronts from the 2GC. I suppose they are compatible.

That would be ideal but won't be possible. The 2GC has a low nose and longer bonnet while the 1-Series has a chunky, short and almost MPV like nose.

The front of the 2GC is a definite improvement over the 1series but I actually prefer the 1series rear than the ugly 2GC rear. I have to see the 2GC in real life, but I have seen the CLA and think it looks fantastic.

Excellent work, at the request of all who if they were, they would be complaining that it is equal to 2 GC, they would say that BMW makes all cars the same, blah blah blah, I love that each one has its own design and personality, it is also the whole line for the first time and it is for listening to the fans and clients who asked for it and we asked for it that way, remember ?, but it cannot conform to all.So...

I hear you. However the 2GC makes the goofy front-end of the 1-Series look like a mistake. The non M-Sport 1-Series are so unattractive that I cannot believe that the car is wearing a BMW badge.
That's very possible. The 1-Series and X3 are the two BMWs that are generally ugly and get significant LCI updates.

Just been to my local Corona contamination centre to see the new 2er GC. My quick thoughts are that it is VERY spec dependent. In a dark grey or black colour with the biggest rims it looks perfectly OK.

On the UK configurator the 19" rims require the shadow line grille, which I hate. Seriously, BMW has the cheek to title the configurator as "Configure your perfect BMW", yet in most cases option dependencies are highly interlinked.

It was why I posted that photo despite the quality, the size of the wheels immediately makes it look good, it is one of those designs that works "almost" just like that, those are 19 ", I would like to see it with 20" although it may be too much.
