BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

It’s a car we’ve been talking about for what seems like forever; BMW’s 1-series coupe, the compact, agile two-door coupe that promises to succeed the original E30 M3 in the affections of thousands of enthusiasts across the UK, is a car that’s got the Autocar office well and truly revved up.

Well, the talking’s over. This weekend, Autocar.co.uk will be bringing you the first official pictures of BMW’s white-hot welterweight, together with the first details on its engine and running gear.

For now, all we can show you is the above badge shot; deduce what you will from that, and for more, check out Autocar.co.uk on Sunday.

Seems like autocar are a bit behind the times, at least we know that offical pictures will be shown on Sunday!

Its incredible lame that there are no highres/wallpapers on BMWs press site but on 1addicts they are Wallpaper photos. Why the hell is BMW taking so long :t-crazy2:

Europe will get 120d (177PS), 123d (204PS) & 135i (306PS) initially. US: 128i (230hp), 135i(300hp).

Btw, I found this interesting claim in AMS:

Bei beiden stärkeren Modellen sichert zudem ein Sperrdifferenzial die Traktion.

=

Both stronger models are equipped with a differential lock to provide better traction.

:t-hands:

While US press release only claims this:
Traction by electronic rear brake management provides a high level of differential lock on the BMW 135i Coupe.

The new BMW 135i Coupe comes not only with a sports suspension, but also with appropriate modifications of the ASC and DSC driving stability systems, taking the particularly sporting character of the car into account.

To ensure enhanced traction when the DSC is completely switched off, a software-controlled locking function slows down the drive wheels when spinning in an appropriate, properly controlled process. This, in turn, enhances the car’s traction without any negative effects on its steering behavior.

Which in fact is a sort of electronic "differential lock", and I believe this is the case here - and not having a mechanical diff lock.

:t-hands:

AMS also claims 135i weights 1,500kg (3,300lb). Eg. 335i weights 1,600kg (3,530lb).

I have to say guys with all those new hi-rez pics...I have to say that I am liking it! It is starting to grow on me.

I don't feel regret for my 3dr purchase...don't get me wrong...but it is not as bad as I thought at first.

I am loving the diff control...sounds like an electronic LSD like the GTI has.

I wonder when we will see the no-Mpack pics.

EnI...when is that 2.0T petrol coming?

Very nice. I really like it! Now we need different colors/rims and bigger pics

1500 kg is good, but still a bit on the heavy side imo. Must be a lot of luxury in this little machine, still. 1250 kg for an M1 CLS would be amazing, and with some lightweight components and carbon, 250 kg off the weight could be possible...

I want an M1 CSL :eusa_danc

Okay
I take back the remarks I made earlier about the rear:D.

It's not that bad, it just needs getting used to like the E90 tail lights. But at the sametime I don't know if the car is for me. In relation to the price the interior dissapoints. Since there won't be an 118i it will not exactly be a cheap car but the dynamics will most likely partially make it worth the dough. On the side note I expected it to be much lighter since it's a tiny car.

Good to hear Luw, I knew you would come around...in a few days you might even consider it beautiful :D

BTW, I only now notice the spoiler lip on the boot. I wouldn't want that I think.

I like the overall shape and design of the rear, even the spoiler. Reminds me of the Vanquish:

Is that a 280 kph speedo I see???? Oh man I love it. I wasn't sold on the looks originally, but with the hi-res photos I have to say its pretty nice. I think this car is going to sell ridiculously well. Appeals on so many levels, entry price/value (well hopefully anyway), size (to some), performance, and the novelty/newness factor.

I'm new to Germany, can anyone recommend a good dealer here in Bonn or does it not matter? I'm not sure how it works here. Do dealers take deposits? Who are the good tuners here that have developed products for the N54 motor? Any shops I can visit? Don't want to hijack the thread so feel free to PM me.

Thanks in advance. :t-cheers:

of course the max speed of the speedometer is not the actual top speed that the car can achieve. Or this isn't the case with BMW?

BMW are no different from other carbrands.

BMW 120i has a real topspeed of 224km/h but the speedo shows 260km/h.

My e46 ZHP could get to its listed top speed on the speedo. 155mph (US). Not sure what that is in kph, but 280 is certainly faster. :D

I highly doubt there will be an M1...just my opinion. But remember i also said the coupe would not be called the two series as well-and that there would be a 135i.....

Off topic...I know...but I just have to show you this...
