That's of course your own opinion and not a fact. If you ask others they probably not going to agree with you. Some people would say A8 looks too much like A4/A6 and therefore not as exclusive as the bimmer/MB.

Oh c´mon that a fact. A8 interior has not mich in common with the rest of the Audi line-up, at least until we see the A7 and the A6. The 7er has just the same interior as the 5er, brilliant, because it is nothing but beautiful, but what Centurion says is just the truth.

Audi A6 and A8 have completely different design philosophies and execution. Pictures say more than a thousand words. Welcome to the new BMW:

Its not the truth at all, just some members from GCF claiming so. if you ask others they will say 7er is more exclusive than A8. And regarding A8 I was talking about exterior, not interior.

Again , in Audi's case I'm talking about exterior cause new A8 is nothing more than a larger A4/A6. Depending on who you asking its just an opinion.

The biggest edge the A8 and S have over the 7-Series is exclusivty. BMW are engaging in heavy component whoring as they've blessed the 5-Series with the same interior as the 7-Series.

I am already looking forward to the logical and verbal gymnastics we are going to witness from MB fans when the next SLK appears with the SLS interior. Of course ignoring the fact that SLS, a $150,000+ supercar already dips heavily into the parts bin of an entry level sedan.

^^
There is a difference between taking a component from a lower car and surrounding it with a well throughout design layout, and blatantly shoehorning the interior from a top of the range saloon into a signifigantly cheaper one.

If the next SLS ape the interior of the SLS then I will eat my words but I'm optomistic that the result will work in my favour. :D Until then it's not a stretch to claim that BMW are the new Audi. Now I patiently await the new 6-Series and will be baffled if it has the same interior as the 5 and 7-Series.

Well Audi's exterior being similar is nothing new. The discussion here is about BMW transition from high individualism to cost-cutting.

SLK & SLS you must mean? ;)

Why new Audi? BMWs used to have very similar interiors not so long ago, if you remember.

Now I patiently await the new 6-Series and will be baffled if it has the same interior as the 5 and 7-Series.

It won't according to Scott:

The new 6er takes it's interior concept from the CS and lately the Z4. Allowing a sporty facia in which the aircon and air vents are almost flat. This gives it a unique sporty edge. allowing BMW's "Wave" philosophy present within the Z4 and the X1 to be incorporated with the 6er.

How is it cost cutting using 7er level interior on a 5er? Yea, probably saved some time and money on design, but production costs far out weigh design costs. And of course I guess using C class parts on SLS is not cost cutting?

To me the 5 Series interior has been taken a class above its competition so who really cares if it looks like the 7 Series, it is a fantastic interior design! I'm yet to meet a person who hasn't had nothing but praise for my 750i interior. I think the 5 Series interior even looks better!

I had no doubt while casting my vote; when ever a new luxury sedan come out, it really shake our mind. But the new A8 was a bit disspointment, but the new 7-series was a stunner. Any how I had no doubt while selecting my luxury sedan, it the all time legend might S-class. Even though its four years old, it still strongly fight with the rivals to be the winner of this class & the title of 'the best car in the world' is won by S-class!

BMW's biggest edge is that they by far have the best interior design language with the 7er, 5er and 5er GT. Audi and Mercedes have to go to exclusivity to have their products stand out a bit from the interior side of things. Mercedes-Benz in particular is completely lost in terms of interior design. The C, E, E-coupé are just ugly, and the S/CL is a 98% BMW E65 7er rip.
And as far as component whoring goes....Sunny has said enough about that, no need to get started about the SLS and so.....

BUT...The S-Class is still number 1.

1. In Sophistication
1. In Recognition
1. In Safety
1. In Technology (Probably)

Not even a 760 can step to it! But the 7 series has it set against the S600 and below in terms of power.

  • -Sophistication? I think not. Most definitely the Bimmer. There is nothing sophicticated about the flared wheelarch, Bangle butt S-class.
  • -Recognition? Maybe 15 years ago, but I am willing to give to the benefit of the doubt here.
  • -Safety? Same as above. Safety is not BMW's thing. The cars are plenty safe, but they do not stand out with special safety stuff. BMW invests that money on other things.
  • -Technology???? LOL, please don't make me laugh. BMW is and will always be the tech king.

And other than the S65 AMG, the 760i is faster than any S-klasse. And with it's vastly superior V12 Twin Turbo, it would be very easy to make an S65 AMG killer out of the 7er. It's simple as that.

Cost cutting? LOL. Go sit in a 2004 BMW 5er and tell me what you think of it. The E60 (pre facelift, and facelift to a slightly lesser extend) has one of the cheapest plasticy BMW interiors ever made. Sure, the design was highly individual, but the quality of materials, attention to detail and overall presentation was severely lacking. The E39 interior quality killed it too. F01 and F10 are anything but cost cutting. Similarity does not equal cost cutting, you know....

Boy, I love internal combustion. In particular now that BMW is stronger than ever before :cool::cool:

BMW is stronger than ever before

Just your imagination:D:D:D

On the surface yeah. But deep down inside your hearts are bleeding because your worst nightmare has come true, BMW using the same interior for multiple cars. The layout, buttons, positioning of them and steering wheel for the F01 and F10 are exactly the same. And now you're on the fence having to play devils advocate while supressing the truth.

A BMW more sophisticated then Benz...Oh please. BMW is an alternative to Mercedes. The flared wheelarch gives the car a sporty stance especially in the AMG model, which on the 7 series simply looks plane. Unlike the previous 7 series, the S-class borrows from the Maybach rear NOT the bangle tradition BM(Snubba U) rear. The S-class rear comes off elegants and sleek.

  • -Recognition? Maybe 15 years ago, but I am willing to give to the benefit of the doubt here.

Other then the M3 and M5, what "shinning" star does BMW even have? They don't even have a supercar. The best thing BMW has going for it is the ownership of Rolls-Royce and the Marketing Car and Bimmer provides them.

  • -Safety? Same as above. Safety is not BMW's thing. The cars are plenty safe, but they do not stand out with special safety stuff. BMW invests that money on other things.

Lol...If safety is not BMW's thing, then I never want to buy one. Lol and speaking of investments, what do they use their money for...? X6 M and X5 M development. Surely not something worth while like a Z4 M.

  • -Technology???? LOL, please don't make me laugh. BMW is and will always be the tech king.

All the Germans have adequate technology, but the 7 series is far from being the tech king. Maybe the King of Excuses....

Lol @ Other than the S65 AMG...Exactly! Until they get the Balls to do an M7 and stop using ALPINA's after market job as an excuse the S65 AMG still wears the thrown and can easily BUST through BMWs entire line up

BMW...The Alternative Driving Machine!

^That's the old school HOH for ya!

LOL at this thread!

I see that [fanboi mode=on] is back in fashion at GCF.

Heavens... some of us really do need to move on in life. :D

Was just about to post that...:jpshakehe

Some of you should really grow up finally...;)

Indeed, it's been a while since the last time we've had something like this. If we look at the plus-side, it kind of feels nostalgic, doesn't it? :D

Perhaps we need a thread title change... ;)

Probably not. Most people get e-emotional when it comes to the flagships for their company. It's just natural.

Much to do about nothing really. As long as the arguments don't get serious and personal.
