If/when do you think BEVs will be 50% of annual new car sales in China, the US and EU?

The Koreans are likely to mercilessly beat the Germans in the BEV game. It will be like Tae-Kwon-Do vs... Whatever martial art the Germans invented.

No, I do not think anyone is going to beat anyone in the BEV game. I expect business will continue as usual, with Tesla growing some more in the coming years, and then leveling out, like Apple did compared to Android/Windows. Carmakers that will be out of the BEV game, will not be out because of BEV, they were already almost out in the ICE age: Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Nissan, Honda, Opel (?), Lancia, Alfa, Jaguar, Maserati, Fiat, Volvo (but might change, not because of BEV though partly, but because Chinese).

If you search the definition of "Failure" in a dictionary, you'll see the picture of a Mercedes EQC next to it.

"The best or nothing" and yet can't even, realistically, do 200 miles (320 km).

Mercedes fans will argue that the EQC is just an electric GLC, hence why it has a pathetic range. That's nonsense, because the e-Niro is just an electric version of the Kia Niro and yet the e-Niro has a greater range than the EQC, not to mention the Kia is a lot cheaper than the Merc.

This is the JAC E-JS4.

It's a Chinese electric crossover with a battery pack of 55 kWh, claimed range of 420 Km (260 miles) and claimed energy consumption of 13 kWh/100 km.

Five year warranty and unlike the BEVs from VAG, the JAC has four wheel disc brakes.

Top speed is 160 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 7,5 seconds.

Price: 249,900 BRL = £33,000, €38,610, 44,768 USD.

Toyota's bZ series BEV platform detailed:

The weird thing (to me anyway) is that the dual motor version has a lower range than the single motor version. Most BEVs tend to have a greater range when they have two motors (Tesla's Long Range models, for example) and the opposite is the case with the Toyota bZ4x.

Anyway, at last an electric Toyota with CCS Type 2 DC charging. The Lexus UX 300e still uses CHAdeMO for DC charging, which is quite old fashioned in 2021.

I've seen the opposite, I see most EVs having less range with two motors. Mustang Mach-E, Benz EQS, VW ID4, etc.

When you buy an ICEV, you can one engine with same power either as 2WD or pay only 2K more for 4WD hardware. In bZ4X, if one wants AWD, you can get AWD for a little more. You won't need to add 10k to get AWD because you are in another powere range.

That is like selling a BMW 330i (I4 RWD), and if one wants AWD they have to buy a 340i (I6 AWD).

But I still some hesitancy about being fully reliant on BEVs. What happened over the past winter in Texas, while a Texas-centric issue, shows at least one significant weakness of BEVs. Perhaps there's a solution for that in the future where somehow we can harden our electrical infrastructure so well it'd be almost impossible to hamper our ability to supply electrical power. But I can't think of one. Then again, it's not my field of expertise either.
Didn't want to derail the x8 thread anymore since it is such an exciting and ground breaking vehicle.... ;)

Gas stations don't work without power either so they are not really any better off. If anything, news then was had quite a few stories of Teslas saving the day -

Yeah, admittedly not the ideal thread for me to go on a monologue of sorts.
I heard about the F150 Hybrid being used a generator but not any of the Teslas.

Depends which country, which gas stations, but some at least have backup generators. If the payment infrastructure is down, nothing matters anymore. I have not experienced gas stations without power, but without fuel, in which case BEV can still be charged. But so can old Diesels also continue running on fries oil. Anyway, the survivalist aspect is a fringe case. Preparedness is not all eggs in one basket.

BEVs are not the future, because we live in the age of impatience and people won't have the patience to recharge an electric car.

They are part of the future, they are even already the present, just not for everyone/every case.

Indeed they are. That's why I'm looking forward to see Tesla drivers slugging it out while waiting in line to recharge their shitboxes.

i haven’t seen any fights but over summer people spend hours waiting to charge at public chargers in Norway, it’s more a case of angry wives and bored children.

That's a fun way to spend the summer, huh? Waiting hours in line and being scolded by your family for choosing a Tesla instead of a diesel X5.

Context - Mary Barra, GM CEO, has previously claimed GM will catch/beat Tesla on EVs by 2025. So CNBC asked her about it -

Interviewer: you have about 9-10% of the (EV) market. Tesla has 63% of the market... how will that look in 5 years?
Barra: yes we are the leader today...and we are not going to cede our leadership position to anyone!

WTF!!! :ROFLMAO:
