Hot! Bentley EXP 9 F Concept

A photoshop of a tonned-down version:

Now that's cosmetic surgery housewives of Orange County can get behind.

Much improved!

I sort of see some potential in the car in this photo. However the face still needs a tiding up. BTW, the colour scheme reminds me of the Audi Q7 Concept.

It looks like a Mini Cooper mated with an Audi and the offspring was kicked in the face by a horse.

Has Bentley gone full-ret*rd finally?

In the picture posted by Centurion it looks magnificent.
Interesting: The side skirt is actually a part of the door... something we don't see in other big SUVs. It's way more luxurious as it makes the cabin easier to enter and looks ultra-premium :)
With little adjustments to the front this will be a stunner and one of my all time favorite luxury cars :)

This thing is one of the ugliest suv designs ever envisioned. Its a joke of a thing really, a very sad one. It looks like Range Rover ripoff via China and a Arnage were mashed together and then given a sickly/scary looking version of the Mulsanne's face. British marques are cursed outside of Land Rover when it come their ideas for SUV designs. Aston-Martin also had a SUV design study/concept panned big time.

No surprising that.....

That Didn't Take Long: Bentley SUV redesign already in the works

Bentley SUV redesign due - Car and Car-Buying News - What Car?

Bentley knows this thing is uglier than what is possible to see.

"According to the source, the redesigned EXP 9 F will have ‘more traditional SUV proportions and less retro surfacing’."

OK, if I want a traditional SUV I'm not buying a Bentley for sure but an X5... I love the retro surfacing it's so unique and that's how it should be...

"We hope Bentley goes a bit further and just starts from scratch, dumping the sedan-ified SUV look entirely."

Yeah they hope... it SHOULD be "sedan-ified" as that will make it unique and more of a true Bentley and not just another SUV...

"The EXP 9 F show car uses Bentley’s W12 petrol engine, producing around 600bhp, and has an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A production version is likely to cost around £150,000."

I guess I'm sold already as that's exactly what I was waiting for... this car has it all

My opinion:

Smaller headlamps will result in an even more freaky front as they are single round units...
"UGLY" suits only off-roaders/half off-roaders(SUVs) and ultra luxury cars as they are not for everyone and more important is for them to be distinguished rather than beautiful.
Look at the Phantom... huge presence, "like no other", unique as possible yet you cannot say it's beautiful but that's how a ultra car should be.
If they tone down this SUV too much if will probably become another VAG SUV which I won't be interested in buying at all.
I have ultra-high hopes for this car as it's quality is shining so bright and that shine suits that sedanish SUV sooooo good... it's like an enormous diamond :icondrool

PS: Shocking or not after seeing the expected price and drivetrain this car is now first on my list for my next or next, next car. I just hope the shine will remain on the production car too and they will offer this amazing color :eusa_pray

I guess you are not a fan of the up coming Mercedes G 65? It has a brutal V12, timeless and unique appearance and it is one of the toughest vehicle on sale.

I'm a big fan of it yet it's not exactly what I want. The ride won't be as ultra-luxurious and I'm looking for something new, something that will start a new class and will lead it.
One more thing I like about the Bentley is that it's going to have a longer life cycle than BMWs for example and thus it makes it a better investment for the long period.
I guess the G65 will be even more expensive than the Bentley as it will be in limited numbers... The Bentley for me if they do it right :)

But can we talk about how frightening the Bentley SUV concept is?

Oof. Wow. Woof. The EXP 9F—which wags dubbed the Bentley PCP on account of whoever approved it being on drugs—is a graceless, nay cynical, nay terrible attempt to translate Bentley's sleek styling vocabulary onto a vehicle with Range Rover size and proportions. Somewhere in France there's a bell tower missing its hunchback.

Any one of the roughly 5,000 schlubs who showed up for press days this week could have written the product brief: Bentley, the highborn British vassal of VW Group, needs a sport-utility to compete against Range Rover and other ultraluxury brands such as Maserati and Lamborghini, both of which will be launching SUVs in the next three years.

In all this consolidation, the compression of the product development process, what are the risks? Well, if all you've got in your toolbox is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Inevitably, good ideas, innovation and style will be lost to the homogenizing imperatives of the toolbox. The Bentley concept illustrates better than words what happens when shared-platform imperatives—so-called hard points such as the size of an engine or height of a seat or dimensions of a gas tank—are the primary drivers of design. Once all the modular constraints had been accommodated, the Bentley's stylists were left with a fat, boring cube of a truck.

They couldn't make it look like a Bentley, so they dressed it like a pachinko machine.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the universe, still practicing a style of car building that would not have been out of place in the Geneva show of 1930, is Horatio Pagani. Pagani's Huayra hypercar—all 700 horsepower and $1.5 million of it—is comprised of 4,700 custom-designed and fabricated parts, so that the car does not share a switch, light bulb or horn with any other car on the planet. Only the bare engine block, built by Mercedes-Benz AMG, is shared with any other car. "We want to be like Ettore Bugatti," Mr. Pagani said, "where every piece of the car is a work of art. That is our brand, that is our luxury."

Mr. Pagani, thanks for not sharing.

There is no excuse for the designers to create this abomination. The hard points of the shared platform has nothing to do with things like those over sized headlights, fog light/cannons, forcefully grafted on rear wheel arches and so on.

To be honest, I kind of like it. Minor facial touches and, IMO, they have it. I agree with Mini_Cooper4 if it's going to be "just another SUV", then whats the point of making it at all? I actually like the surface detailing, the only thing that needs to be toned down is the front, The side profile and rear all seem fine to me. Centurion's PS shows the design has potential. Press release and official photos don't do justice to the concept, the pics from the floor show the lines and surfaces better.

C'mon, tail lights with 3D ellipsoid light effect are also way to tacky for a brand / car like Bentley. Not to mention that graphics looks completely ridiculous featured in the conservative rectangular cluster (taken from Bentley Eight / RR Silver Spirit - from 1980s).

Rear flank haunches are way too overdone.

The front ... oh, lord! Those "foglights" ... what the heck is that? They look like jet engine turbines. While the fascia (headlights + grille) looks weird- The headlights are too large, located too much on the edges, and the additional air intakes between the grille & headlights look too tacky as well. Making the whole (already busy) fascia even more busy & overdone.

Interior is nice though. Very well crafted. Although the position of the infotainment central display is just odd. Not very functional. Too low. And it looks odd too. Like an afterthought.

Overall the concept looks way too overdone, way to tacky ... And it's not handsome at all. It really looks like a cheap & tasteless Chinese attempt to create Bentley-looking SUV.

Most of the industry & media agree: this concept / designs is one of the biggest flops on the Geneva 2012 Motor Show.

A big humiliation for Bentley & VAG. I'm sure some Bentley heads will roll.

^^^ Oh boy! Chinese auto industry has something to cheer about, finally. That's a very close call. :eusa_doh:

Bentley release SUV powertrain details, new photos

Making its Asian debut at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, further specification details were announced for the EXP 9 F SUV concept. Although the company has not officially confirmed the model will be produced, they have revealed a couple of powertrains that are under consideration.
One powertrain that is certain to be part of the line-up is the company's flagship 6.0-liter W12 engine which develops 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The 4.0-liter V8 unit that recently debuted in the Continental will likely be in the mix and they are also considering a ground breaking V6 plug-in hybrid. The latter will be a first in the luxury segment and would potentially travel up to 30 km (19 miles) in all-electric mode while possessing a 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration time of under 5 seconds.
One area that the Bentley SUV concept has not been ground breaking is the design of the vehicle. The criticism has been pretty universal which has lead to executives ordering a total redesign before it hits production.

I really hope they can do something more special and beautiful with the exterior. It would be nice to see this go into production.

I agree, otherwise this is going to flop badly in countries where they have good taste. This was their chance to make something to shame Mercedes, Land Rover and anyone else who think they have a high-end luxury SUV.

Would have preferred something more like the Navicross. :D
