Bentley Confirms Mystery Release for June 17

This June is set to be an important month for Bentley, with the British automaker confirming that it is set to come up with a new release on June 17.

We spoke to a Bentley source earlier today and were given the info, but this is where the mystery starts. We’re all expecting Bentley to bring us some new version of the Continental GT, since two prototypes wearing unusually large aerodynamic elements were spied on the Nurburgring more than once in the course of the current year.

Bentley claims that was just a test bed for aero components, but, like we said, the rumor mill points to the fact that the carmaker will introduce some sort of a driver’s edition for the Conti GT.

For instance, autocar published a piece on the matter earlier today, stating they expect Bentley to come up with “a flagship rear-wheel-drive performance version of the Continental GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed”

Still, there are a lot of aspects here that need to be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, we are told the vehicle, which will be badged GT3, will link Bentley’s road cars to its racers. Going past the designation and the flagship bit, which may or may not be the actual one, the idea itself does make sense. After all, Bentley did recently return to GT racing, with its Continental GT3 already enjoying some wins.

Nonetheless, the aforementioned source states the upcoming Continental GT will ditch the four-wheel drive in order to save weight. While the vehicle will most likely be put on a diet. it doesn’t sound like Bentley to give us a RWD Conti, at least not with the current platform. Still, we do expect carbon fiber to be on the menu.

We’ll leave the salt cellar aside for the expected positioning of the model, as it does make sense for this to be a limited edition model.

Bentley Continental GT3-R limited edition

Has lost 100 kg
Bentley has taken the wraps off the limited-run Continental GT3-R which is based on the track-only Continental GT3 and comes with more power fitted into a lighter body.

Following multiple rumors and spy shots, Bentley is presenting a GT3-R version of the Continental that has lost a whopping 100 kg (220 lbs) through the rear seat removal and the adoption of a titanium exhaust system and lightweight forged 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in Pirelli tires.

Aside from being lighter, the GT3-R is also more powerful than the GT V8 S as the twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter has turbochargers with a higher boost and a new engine control software which have bumped output from 528 PS (389 kW) and 680 Nm (520 lb-ft) to 580 PS (426 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) from 1,700 rpm. An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission channels output to an all-wheel drive system featuring a torque vectoring system which represents a premiere for a Bentley.

Thanks to the more power less weight combo, the Bentley Continental GT3-R sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.8 seconds, making it 0.7s quicker than the aforementioned GT V8 S. Due to the gearbox's shorter gearing, top speed has decreased from 192 mph (309 km/h) to 170 mph (273 km/h).

Production will be capped at 300 units and all of them will wear a Glacier White paint with glossy carbon fiber contrasts on the headlamp bezels, bumpers strips and grille while the side profile will boast two-tone green graphics.

Sorry for that possible stupid question. What means "incredidumb"? I can't find a translation for this.

One should be incredidumb to buy this car...
There are plenty of incredidumbs in the likes of United Arab Emirates and Qatar who will queue for this car.

er, they're only doing 300 of them. Chelsea FC should be good for half of that alone - Wayne and Colleen Rooney when they get back early next week, the other half.

As expected, the likes of 'The Taliban' at Pistonheads are all over this news, with similar anguished cries of 'what muppets will buy this?', and 'Bentley's sold out', and '2.2 tonne 'lightweight'!', etc., in other words they recognise the threat to their beloved JLR, and try to poke fun at how heavy it is?!, and how chavtastic it is - seen a 'Stealth' R/Rover recently, you muppets?

The point is, this Bentley is once again excellent engineering from a German company - just the 580 PS from the 4-litre V8 alone - and puts the ridiculous coming R/R Sport RS with its 550 PS immediately in the shade, and even with 2.2 tonnes is half a second faster than the nearly 2 tons itself 'Stunning' F-type RS 'sports car'.

Bentley - let's cut the crap, it's only a brand - VAG are paving the way here for the coming Bentley SUV, with this Bentley GT3-R.

With the new platform under the Bentley SUV, shared with the next Q7, Q8, Cayenne III and Lambo Urus, VAG will be able to go full whack at the obese R/Rover twins, with the 300 kilos-shedding new platform, making Bentley for the first time, a properly viable sports-emphasising brand.

That will be followed up in 2017 with the Panamera II-based new Continental GT/Flying Spur, with proper RWD-platforrm credentials, major weight-saving and so on, which will do to the Jaguar F-type/XK replacement/next XJ what the Bentley SUV will have done to the R/Rover Autobiography - bury them - assuming Jaguar is still around them, and hence all the bile and attempted disparaging of the GT3-R on Taliban-Pistonheads - the Last Redoubt of the painfully obvious JLR shills and their 'stunning Jaaags'.

Is it possible for you to just make a normal, unemotional post without bringing Jaguar into it?

This is the thread about the new Bentley Continental GT3

Blaspheme! I don't like big heavy luxury cars and then see them make a track weapon of one makes me shiver.

Never mind that a weight lose of only 100kg on a car weighing this much, I love Bentley but this amount is piss poor.

This is marketing PR BS of the highest order.

No thanks.
Talk about brand dilution.
Who in their right mind would want to track their Bentley- it is true we are becoming increasingly stupid.

LOl this was the big mystery?

Mansory could have done this to your regular Conti GT..

This is does not rhyme well with the bentley brand..

Leave this shitty Conti series already..and either make a new one.. or focus on giving us the Mulsanne T or R.. also a coupe off the Mulsanne.. and a damn cabrio..

Conti series is played out like house music. Leave it be ! Or burn it to the ground!
