Say goodbye to 4 cylinders and make it a W12, problem solved.

Then create a vehicle that can house it up front. A SUV as over the top as the Chiron.

M

A W16 is not so much bigger than a W12. The width is the same only the lenght is different but it's still very compact. The lenght of the W12 equals that of a 3 and a half in-line cylinders and the W16 that of 4 and a half.
C'mon folks, let's be realistic.

The Chiron's W16 engine is huge, very heavy - over 400 kg dry - and visibly tall as well. Whilst it's not impossible to place it in a front end configuration, I think we can all be reasonable and accept that this unit would require a Hummer H1 sized vehicle around it. And that's just not practical in this day and age.

On top of that, we're not considering cooling systems, drivetrain adaptation and other front-engined packaging requirements (like being able to have an opening hood above it).

It's as much a monster of an engine as the Chiron is a marvel of tight packaging.

I could see Bugatti packaging the W16 to fit, but I don't think it would be as per the configuration above.

For starters, I doubt they'd be aiming to get an SUV to 250ish mph. Take that down to a more 'sedate' 200mph, and they could probably knock 500hp off the required power output, and that's going to bring with it more cooling options and other benefits.

Cross sectionally a ~500cc per cylinder WR configured engine will fit under the bonnet of a front engined car (VW, Audi, Bentley do/did it). Without those great big intercoolers on top of the engine, and perhaps a simpler twin turbo arrangement, it would look more feasible.

I'll lament the loss of the V12 in Rolls-Royces when it happens, similarly, I'd find a Bugatti without a W16 a bit weak.

I am a fan of large engines too but I have to agree with you 100% on this one. The W16 is too large, heavy, and vulgar. There are far more efficient ways to squeeze more than 1100hp out of an engine or EV motor these days. If Bugatti went for an all-electric Spartacus as I said earlier it would save a large amount of money and make it more accessible to the consumer. If Rolls Royce can go all EV with its top-end Spectre coupe surely Bugatti can do the same with a rocket ship SUV.

I get both arguments. I don’t care if it’s electric or petrol, I just want to see a bespoke ultra high end SUV on the level of the Chiron. Something it can share the garage with and maybe a Phantom.

What is this video? A sequel to Love Actually or maybe Brokeback Mountain?

Ratcliff is an ultra Hamilton fan boy.

Give me a woman who beams and giggles the way that these two do in each others company.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ and BMW XM are late to the party. I wonder how each of these would have faired in the poll. The Caddy is big and just as bold as the XM, is far less fussy in the details.

It’s abundantly clear that the high end luxury SUV has replaced the high end luxury sedan.

Here in the UK, manufacturers are discontinuing sedans in their portfolios. SUVs are preferred head and shoulders above sedans. I wouldn't be surprised if the bias is even greater amongst women who have a big voice in the purchase of family cars.

Ultra high-end SUVs are only getting started. The DBX, Urus, Cullinan and XM are only in their first generations.

Unfortunately (IMO), though it's best to understand and embrace this trend, as it's practically irreversible at this stage

Absolutely, 100%

There has been quiet rumors about Bugatti getting in the race in the last 2-weeks or so, under Rimac ownership.

Time for a mid-engined SUV LOL
