Both cars on 18" wheels

I say impressive heavy C63 sedan;):D,the results is pretty expected, the C is faster and the M3 better handler, but the C came pretty close considering the weight difference between both cars.

There are always two sides of a story isnt it? I have no idea how you can say its close. What determine close and what formula are you using when you get the conclusion its "close"?

C63 accelerate better and M3 handles better and thats it. There are no IF and BUT.

Oh come one please, what were you expecting with a 6,2L engine from the Merc?

I ment by close is handling numbrs,the numbers were wider with E64 M3 and C55 that's t i ment.

Good to see M3 has the C63 beat on the track despite the power deficit.

Thanks for the post. In this test, the difference in straightline acceleration is evident again, confirming the C&D test that the C63 is quite a bit faster than the M3. This test also confirms the fact that the M3 has the clear edge in the handling department, especially given the fact that the C63 should be quite a bit faster in the straights.

Torque and a bit of extra power means nothing then ?!
The M3 needs the semi-automatic transmission.

Effectively yes. There really is no power advantage for the Merc if you consider the extra 5% of power the automatic is sapping. As for torque well certainly the extra 1,200 rpm helps the M3 to pull shorter gears to make up some deficit. The 400 pound difference shows, they need a more apples to apples comparison with the (heavier?) M3 sedan rather than the coupe. Oh, and the C63 needs a semi-auto too. :D

expected result..both cars did great..
i think some ppl take it lightly.. think about how underpowerd or equally powerd the M3 is to the C63 and RS4 respectively
and it still spanks them..thats not bad..
on the other hand its lighter wich helps it alot..

PS
C63 Hauls ass.. in real world it will kill the M3 over and over again.. especially with that easy automatic tranny...

yes, if thats the reason why you pick C63 over M3 than go ahead but in real world the chance to race a C63 is not going to happen often so my car choice will be based on something else. I've driven the new M3 and there is enough power so its not a big loss to lose to a C63. You win some and you lose some and I will still love the M3 no matter what.

Oh, there is a saying the M3 Convertible next month will be presented with the new gearbox , DCT. Exciting, very exciting :eusa_danc

That's is what i was always saying, the extra weight is definitely responsible for the track performance, still it came close, and i can't wait to see M3 and C63 new transmission:bowdown:

Apparently M3 has better balanced chassi, every review says the new M3 rides better and that C63 has a stiffer suspension. So obviosly MB needed to sacrifice comfort to make the new to C63 handle better.

Also, this is a small track and 1.3 seconds on a small track isn't close, its not like the big N-ring.

Oh, in real world the rs4 is going to beat both M3 and C63 on a track if average Joe is behind the wheels. RS4 offers tremendous grip and is safer to go fast with. A couple of days ago I was in a RS4 and the grip is out of this world, you can really push the RS4 real hard before something goes wrong.

well i dont hope your basing it on the some fals fact that the C63 lacks feel
from what we understand this far..the C63 has better feedback..
so maybe its even more fun to drive..
So if its more fun to drive..and winns in everyday conditions
why would you take the M3?
cause its 1.3s faster on the track?
or cause its a bimmer?
or maybe both..haha:D

becuase I was impressed with M3 when I drove it and its more than I can handle. Also I prefer Coupes over Sedans. I also prefer manual over automatic. C63 is a nice car but so is the M3. Heck, I love the RS4 too and that choice would be the safest choice, thanks to Quattro, to bad the car is so expensive.

Helvete klockan är 23.30, fan måste gå och sova, bye.

The M3's better lap time is not only because of better handling but clearly also because of better braking (mainly due to weight). Question for BMW fans: How can you be so sure you're going to win the race when the Merc beats you off the line (and probably into the first corner)? Better individual lap times may be virtually guaranteed but if you are slow off the mark, winning a race becames a lot harder since you are going to have to leave the racing line in a tight overtaking move at some time. These cars are not exactly made for nudging each other in tight corners either!

I still prefer the BMW but I am not so sure it is going to win many races (especially straight line ones) against this Merc. Clear-track lap times and races are not the same thing.

23:30? dagen har precis börjat för pundare som mig..haha j/k

You should drive the C63 aswell..

PS
I read that AMG is developing a DCT aswell..and that in a recent article about the C63-- in a swedish mag..
so there is hope for you to still want the car..you secretly love more:D..:usa7uh:

I guess that summs it up...

That quote was from Autocar and Chris Harris made it. CH is a well respected driver and has many event wins to his name ( the boy can drive.....very well)

another quote from the same article

"I cant think i ever imagined a time when i would state, unequivocally, that a fact c class would have better steering than an M3, but that time has come. The M3s rack has been the subject of much debate since its launch. I dont have a problem with its apparent lack of 'feel' as some because you can stillplace it accuratly through any turn, but the weighting and steering feel of the C63 are both superior. Turn the wheels 15 degrees either side of centre ( as yoy do many times on the on the road to Frankfurt) and your hands and shoulders are met with more resistance than they are in the M3. Thers somthing to push against, in the M3 its just lighter, there isnt as much information to help you judge the amount of lock required. Small point Big difference.

and btw CH has bought an M3.

I posted this in another thread and i feel its relavent to the argument about which car has the better feel.
