The new 1-series faces one of its top rivals in this segment, the formidable A-class. In perhaps one of the first comparisons it has positive and negative points, Autoweek said the engine is noisy and gearbox not ideal but they liked the interior and the dynamics, which was better than the Mercedes. Interesting conclusion.

The A-Class looks like 10 times better than the 1er. What a terrible design choice here by BMW.

Very subjective. But I too think the A class is vastly better proportioned. The 1er looks very poor indeed.

At least objectively the 1er appears to drive better according to this test. Which is more important.

Popular opinion seems pretty clear - and design should matter to afficionados - the Benz has vastly superior sheet metal compared to the bug-eyed, pug-nosed BMW

I am reading the 1er has an excellent interior. On par with the A3 and way better than the A-Class.

Shame on MB for their cheap interiors...

There’s no doubt that BMW has vastly stepped up their interior game especially in build quality.

The bare wires under the accelerator pedal, crudely cut out plastic cover over my cup holders, and the crinkled leather upholstery on my X5 say otherwise. But please, tell us about your own experiences and not something you've watched on YouTube.

Aren't you happy with the X5 interior quality?

It depends what you class as "interior quality". On first glance it looks good quality, and the surfaces feel nice to the touch, but then you notice little things here and there, like exposed wires and poorly cut plastic trim. And the leather is ruffling up already. It's only done 2,500km.
