Generally the build is good. Some hard plastic down around the gearbox and glovebox but overall its not bad. No annoying noises or squeaking from the interior. Its solid and no big gap between the materials. Its certainly not much worse than my mothers brand new BMW 1-series. Sure it's not A3 level but you dont pay a fortune for the car so you cant really demand it. For the money ST is great value, saying otherwise is just lack of knowledge.

That was the point I was trying to make to C4L, if you were comparing a BMW to the S1 then outright interior quality and materials used would have more of a bearing.

When you buy a Ford you already know it's not competing on the same level so the expectations aren't the same and it's not like the Fiesta is bad to begin with as you've already highlighted.

Currently there isn't anything to compete with the Fiesta ST in terms of fun factor vs £££, but then again the guy considering an S1 wouldn't have the ST on his radar, he has slightly different wants and demands.

Yes it has more power and AWD but that doesnt mean its more fun to drive. Thats what I value the most and S1 simply cost too much what you are paying for. R WRC is another example about a car I rather buy than S1.
I read comparisons about ST beating cars like M135i, RS6, M6, A45 AMG when it comes to driving. I cant even count all the awards and positive feedback the ST been getting. Let's see if the S1 is going to get the same glowing feedback like the ST did.
I'm just back home from a good drive. I've driven many powerful and expensive cars but the ST is special, no doubt about that and I paid the car in cash, thats how cheap it is. Not a single time have I seen lack of handling, the way this car takes corners are brilliant. And the steering feedback is one of the best right now, many cars just can dream of having. And then there the slick and quick manual gearbox. Skip the biases aside and your comments are nothing than prejudices and no knowledge.

But you admit that the price alone even precludes you from test driving it. So how would you know if it is worth it or not?

And there is no bias. I am very familiar with the Fiesta ST. I am actually being nice given what I have said about it so far. I don't really care what reviews have said. Comparing a Fiesta ST to an ANY of the cars you just mentioned is silly. I don't think it is a special car in any way at all...

Of course not but I am sure the S1 is more entertaining than a Fiesta too...

My parents own a Fiesta (non ST) and I see all sorts of poor build/material quality bits. I feel like I could pull the thing apart with my bare hands. The biggest problem areas are around the doors where the headliners meets the pillar covers. I can fit my whole hand inside there. At highway speeds here in the US it is almost scary...

It certainly isn't Audi quality and not even VW quality as I had a MK6 GTI to compare my parents Fiesta to...

Compare the Fiesta ST to a Mini Cooper S or 500 Abarth or whatever other subcompacts you have where you live and I am sure it does fine. But all these cars here (and the S1) are simply in a full class above that car.

Same here in the States where many think it is a fun little city car but nowhere near what real performance cars are. Not even to GTI levels of performance and driving dynamics...

But I can read and the love for the car (ST) is huge. You haven't driven S1 either but still you praise the S1 like its a godsend.

PS Funny you mention Cooper S, been comparisons and ST is still more fun than the *new* Cooper to drive. Also you mention interior quality, looks like your Mums Fiesta is a big error which you cant say about mine so why should I care about your mums car.

Look if there are tests which compare these cars please link them, otherwise you're making it up, I for one would love to read the RS6 v ST test. I had a quick look and can't find anything. However you are right there are glowing reviews and the ST compares favourably with it's immediate competitors Clio RS, Polo GTi, 208 GTi.

I’m soon to be 40 years old so more valuable posts is what I appreciate. You guys remind me of me. I was fanboy of BMW for many years and driven various BMW’s since 1995 until today. But I got older (or smarter) and learn there are other good cars out there and it doesn’t need the badge to be good. But I must admit a BMW M235i is candidate for my next car.

Who said anything about the badge? We are talking about the actual products? We are supporters of good cars. The Cupra, S1, and GTI dominate the Fiesta ST. Sorry. You just bought the cheap alternative which is fine if that works for you. You don't have to be a fanboy or supporter to see this truth. Quite the contrary actually...

I'm 41, I'm not a fanboy of any particular marque, I buy what I like at the time I'm looking for a car, my car history reflects that. If you're going to sight comparison tests you should post them or you'll end up in the same irrelevant bucket as kilcrohane.

I can PROMISE Chris Harris (who has a DD S4 Avant) prefers the GTI/S1/Cupra to the Fiesta ST. But the ST as it compares to the Polo, Clio, etc? Who cares?

To think Just_Me has made about a dozen comments here and ALL have been about the Fiesta ST in some way. It was off topic from even his very first comment, the 2nd reply in the whole thread simply read;
