true, but the Q5 was 3-4 months later, June compared to Oct '08.
More importantly, Mercedes obviously knew the W204 C-Class and the first-gen. GLK based on it, were way off the pace, being murdered, without deep discounting, by the 2012- 3-Series and Q5. Hence why the W205 was pulled forward as much as possible, with the intro in Detroit 2014, 2 months shy of the 7-year anniversary of the W204's launch in Geneva 2007, and the likewise need to prioritise and rush forward the GLK's replacement, further shy of the usual 7-year replacement cycle, with the launch expected around L.A. motor show, Nov 2014, some 5 months ahead of the GLK's 7-year anniversary in April 2008.
By contrast, the Q5's replacement is not expected till late 2015, about a year after the launch of the 2nd-gen. GLK, and after the new A4 gets launched first, also due some time in 2015.
I was just pointing out that the GLK and its mechanical cousin, the W204 C-Class, were like stunted runts in the litter of Mercedes, having been thoroughly left behind by the massively successful Q5 and likewise F30 3-Series, which required, requires Mercedes to do something dramatic, quantum leap, with the new GLK, as it has done with the new C-Class, and hence why I fully expect the new GLK to leapfrog the Q5, its sister car Macan, and the facelifted X3(/X4).
In summary, just over six months from now the vast majority of folk will view the arrival of the new GLK, as they are doing currently with the new C-Class, and how it has completely turned the tables on the established class pecking order. That was the point, nothing more.
