I doubt it Martin.
First: those PDK seems indesructable

isn't it the case that in some double-clutch autos, DSGs, S tronics, PDKs... , the clutches run in oil and some in air, with the air ones being better for optimising of fuel efficiency, whilst the in-oil ones are more for higher torque handling and durability?

True. PDK also have heat exchangers and radiators. BTW i find tracks more punishing than offroad. Rockcrawlers are extreme and require special setups, so out of context here.

true, but the Q5 was 3-4 months later, June compared to Oct '08.

More importantly, Mercedes obviously knew the W204 C-Class and the first-gen. GLK based on it, were way off the pace, being murdered, without deep discounting, by the 2012- 3-Series and Q5. Hence why the W205 was pulled forward as much as possible, with the intro in Detroit 2014, 2 months shy of the 7-year anniversary of the W204's launch in Geneva 2007, and the likewise need to prioritise and rush forward the GLK's replacement, further shy of the usual 7-year replacement cycle, with the launch expected around L.A. motor show, Nov 2014, some 5 months ahead of the GLK's 7-year anniversary in April 2008.

By contrast, the Q5's replacement is not expected till late 2015, about a year after the launch of the 2nd-gen. GLK, and after the new A4 gets launched first, also due some time in 2015.

I was just pointing out that the GLK and its mechanical cousin, the W204 C-Class, were like stunted runts in the litter of Mercedes, having been thoroughly left behind by the massively successful Q5 and likewise F30 3-Series, which required, requires Mercedes to do something dramatic, quantum leap, with the new GLK, as it has done with the new C-Class, and hence why I fully expect the new GLK to leapfrog the Q5, its sister car Macan, and the facelifted X3(/X4).

In summary, just over six months from now the vast majority of folk will view the arrival of the new GLK, as they are doing currently with the new C-Class, and how it has completely turned the tables on the established class pecking order. That was the point, nothing more.

If I am not mistaken, didn't MB launch a new platform with the W205 C, which will underpin a whole lot more models? So, doesn't it make sense to start phasing out the models that are based on the older platform and rush the launch of the new generation, since they would be much more cost effective (to produce), given the level of parts' sharing?

Am I missing something? Both GLK and Q5 was introduced in 2008 (according to wikipedia). But yet, we are supposed to ignore this one losing and wait for the the next awesome GLK to come and embarrass the old Q5.

Every time a Mercedes loses a comparison, you are there reminding us how we should just wait for the the next engine or transmission or in this case a whole new model to come and sweep the competition - while they all sit still with their thumbs up their asses.

I think Mercedes should really change it's motto from "Best or nothing" to "Best is around the corner". :D

Was just writing pretty much the same and then saw your comment :D
Agree with everything. Both Q5 and GLK came in 2008... so maybe MB should be fast with that new GLK so it could be dem king for a month or so before the new Q5 is out. That's when Kilcro will tell us "Wait for the 3rd gen GLK! It's going to use a 16sp tranny and a 2pot quad-turbo"

According to all comparison reviews the "quantum leap" known by some as the BRAND NEW C-Class is already left behind by the "long in the tooth" F30 3-Series.
What do you base your expectations on? Would that be the already left behind 9G or some future ultra-modern engine by MB?

^ Hilarious :D

BTW, if Q5 wins this test, the X4 and FL X3 have absolutely nothing to worry about. Specs of Macan and Q5 are close to identical. VAG assimilation :borg:

Basically a 350 engine with 4 cyclinders blocked off, a trick they learned for someone else. :D

Oh wow, a whole 3-4 months? My bad then. Yea, agree that makes this test completely ridonkulously "unfair". Can't wait for the new one. That will be a proper fair test against the 7 year old Q5. And Audi dont you dare release another Q5 after that... like forever!

Yup, just look at all the tests where the C is thrashing the 3 year old 3er. And in case it is not, just wait for the new transmission and if that doesn't do it, just wait for a new engine.

Well the numbers say something else though, shared by Wolf in the C thread;)

March registrations in Germany:

C ..... 6424 ... +31.3% ... YTD 14189
3 ..... 5689 ... -16.7% ... YTD 14352
A4 ... 4296 ..... -2.5% ... YTD 11092

Ok.....and why did you post it here in this thread?

The C class is being used as an example, nothing more :)

Why don't you look for any sales numbers for the GLK. I quite frankly forgot this car even exists. They don't sell AT ALL over here in my country, and X3 and Q5 are all over the place. Macan will soon be too.
