Torsion beam for the lesser models. That's a bad joke. Other than that, it's a very fine car.

^Agreed, its kind of an insult to those who either can't afford or chose anything more expensive. But after spending a decent amount of time behind the wheel of the new A3 I reckon this new platform is a real winner and should make the GTI, GTD and R the best in class.

Unfortuntely nothing new about the Scirocco which is basically the same car. Looks like it will be discontinued. No love shown?

Concerning the Golf GTI, I wish it beats the Renault Mégane RS on the N-Ring. Will put down french pride.

^It mightn't match its outright performance but I bet it will be a better car overall, the new chassis is as sweet as a nut IMO.

I've driven the new Golf (although with the weakest engine) and compare to A3 the car left me cold. And what lve read the new Seat Leon is a better drive than Golf.

That was maybe because of torsion beam of models with weakest engine.

^+1. I drive the 1.4TSI Golf SE and found it to be every bit as good as the A3 I drove on the same roads around Belfast both felt nice (nothing more) that was until I drove the A3 on my own roads and then I really took note of what VAG have done with its new chassis, I'd go as far as to say it feels the best sorted FWD I've driven.

^Do you mean the Integra Type R?

If so then definitely but probably not by your reckoning because I always take ride and refinement not only handling into my opinion. The ride quality of this chassis is very good indeed, more in lines with a car with a greater wheelbase yet still feels very nimble.

I could be wrong, but perhaps someone is in agreement with you, suggesting that torsion beams are "old" technology.
Given the fact that rating a post as "old" has a negative effect on the user's reputation, I don't think so.

;)
