Vs Autobild: Audi Q7 vs BMW X5 vs Porsche Cayenne

If I had to pick on of the three, I would go for the Q7. It combines sportiness, looks and performance in a very delicate way. A few months ago, at a carshow in Athens, I had the chance to sit in Q7. I must say, the feeling of the interior is really awesome! When sitting in the Q7, you think you sit in a sports car and that because of the low roof. At the same time, since you are sitting high, it also gives you the feeling that a SUV has. It's brilliant!:usa7uh:

I would also choose the Q7 cause it's a superb car and it has more presence on the road than the other two. X5 looks too much lke the previous model which has it's possitives and negatives. Possitive is that it looks more beautiful than the other BMW models (like X3) but negative is that compared to the others it looks a bit conservative. Still a great SUV that i like very much and would be my second choice after the Q7 in this segment.:usa7uh:

Can someone check if the X5 had the Sportpack? The X5 is a totally different beast with it because that includes FlexRay. Heard it actually makes the car even more comfortable

I'm also interested in what features did X5 & Q7 have. Did the have Active drive & Active Steering (X5), and AirSuspension (Q7)?

Yeah but if you look at it that way, I could say that the Q7 looks like a raised A6 Allroad....not much inspiration for the Q7. Looks like a big Audi estate :usa7uh:

I have to look into this Flexray thingy for the Sportspackage....If the Sportspackage is the only one with Flexray, I might have no choice but to go with that one for my dad.

For me personally I would never go for an SUV that is good off road but not as good on-road. I don't offroad, and if I did, why the hell would take these expensive SUV's out instead of a cheap one?

I would go for an SUV/SAV that feels the most like a car. On top of that it has to be luxurious (all of them accomplish this) and somewhat comfortable. The Porsche should therefore be my favorite, but it is really pricey and it just doesn't look good to me. I'll take the X5 in Space Gray.

PS. No test ever ever mentions this, but I bet you if you switched out the Run-Flat tires, the X5 would be a hell of a lot more comfortable. Those tires for 19" and 20" rims must be insane. I've personally worked with 18" RFT's and I thought those were crazy.

You hit the nail on the head.
Nobody that I know will take their premium SUV/SAV off road, that was and is what Jeeps and pickup trucks are for.
The SUV/SAV are most driven by women, and trust me, they don't go off road. The Porsche might be the exception here where I have seen more male than female drivers.
In the old days, yes SUV/Jeeps were for off road- remember the old Land Rovers, those had very good offroad capabilities whereas the Range Rovers were more on the sport side.
I think modern SUV/SAV has strayed heavily away from to the Offroad part of the equation.
Towing abilities are still called upon every now and then, however the Offroad thing is very very rare.
Perhaps BMW does have a point here; customers will rarely make use of the offroad abilities so why invest so much resources on it.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but to me, the best SUV is the SUV that is offroad capable, has a nice towing capacity, reasonably fuel efficient and fun to drive.

THIS SUV...

...did all that for my family. 0-100 km/h in 30 seconds thanks to its 99-hp 2.5-l turbodiesel (which dated back to 1986). 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero 2500 Intercooler Turbo. The slowest car I've ever driven - and one of the most fun cars at that. It might have been slow, but it was extremely fun to drive, was superb offroad and had decent fuel economy and range. God I miss this baby... :tantrum:

Hey, I love German cars, but my favorite SUV is Japanese! :D

I agree with his 100%

Yea Flexray is a must on the X5. I personally think that they should have made this standard. But it makes it a totally different car.

I'm not sure how the options work in the EU. I'm only speaking of US cars.

What about this:
Adaptive Drive: includes Active Roll Stabilization and Electronic Dampening Control

I read a review about X5 and they said the X5 was more comfy with the extra option Adaptive Drive than a X5 without it.
I wonder if the X5 in this test were tested with this.

I know you guys would kill me for this post, but i would take a Volvo XC90 over the three germans anyday!

It a well balanced car, kinda driver oriented and more made for comfortable cruises and some off-road activity, that racing around a track. I think that this is one of the very few SUVs in the market, that has cought the meaning of this segment.
It can be taken of road, and it's comfortable, while adding to your profile as a fashion equipment!

That's why we have one in the family :D

I don't see why you would be flamed I've heard nothing but goodness about the Pajeros. Too bad we don't get them here so the next best thing are the Wranglers.

My family used to own a Pajero and we all loved it. Slowest car we've ever owned, but one of the most fun and charming vehicles at the same time. Miss her... :0vr:

Nice review Wimmer thanks!;) I'm the kind of consumer that buy's things for the purpose it was made for. I like all three of this SUV's but the only aspect that matters to me out of this comparison is comfort and safety so the Q7 would be my choice. If you want a super fast SUV none of these would flip the bill anyway. If performance is what your after you'd most be buying the much more exspensive models, so it's obvious why the Q7 won this comparison.:)

:t-cheers:

new X5 is one of the safest SUVs on the market. So X5 not an unsafe car. So tell me, how is the X5 an unsafe car?

Yeah your right, what you said is totally correct. I'm sorry Just_me I was drunk and got the to vehicles confused, please except my apology!:) :)

well i think they have missed out the best suv here and that is the ml500.i think that should have been in the test.its good on road as well as offroad .interior roomy and comfy.its got the smoothest ride and it is a gr8 suv and yes i own a ml320cdi and driven a q7 and x5
