Auto Zeitung comparison test: BMW X6/Mercedes ML/Porsche Cayenne/Range Rover

Yes, I suspect the FX is the vehicle that started the segment with its highly sloped back, useless cargo, and sporty nature. But I would never go for the F/L FX over the X6 style wise, maybe the pre-F/L...

I`d take the FX or ML500 over the X6 anyday. I just don`t like the X6 at all, no offence BMW fanners..

dont worry, we are used to your opinions on BMW ;)

The other day I saw my first X6 in traffic. What a head turner, I never thought I was going to like the X6 but OMG its sexy and with lots of road presence. But I would never buy a X. Not my cup of coffee.

*cough bs" @ MT.

Also, there will be more vs articles. I bet my right arm no other vehicle of this size drives better than X6.

:t-cheers:

I think Porsche is the closest. Maybe a matter of personal taste which is preferred. I know that Infinity makes great cars but they are generally more liked in the US than in Europe. Probably because they bridge the gap between BMW and Mercedes.

Oh, i need to post this quote from top Gear:

'It might sound like an odd thing to say, but it feels like the old R34 Skyline GT-R with better suspension. Seriously'

The X6 tucks into a corner more like a sports car than many sports saloons, and certainly with enough grip for pretty much any set of conditions. I was pushing hard in the wet, lobbing the nearside wheels into standing water to see what would happen, braking in the wrong places and generally being ham-fisted, and the X6 just maintained an arrow-straight line.

Indeed, the only way to explore the new intelligent xDrive four-wheel drive and Dynamic Performance Control systems was to get a bit medieval and flick the X6 into a wet, tight corner. And then you start to get a measure on just how much electronic clever they've woven into the very fabric of this car.

The xDrive doesn't feel like other 4WD systems, seeming a dab more neutral and loads more natural. DPC you can feel feeding power around the drivetrain to maintain both momentum and grip, always allowing for a smidge of understeer. This might sound like a really odd thing to say, but it feels like the old R34 Skyline GT-R with better suspension. Seriously. Stable seems like such a dull word for the quality of the experience, but stable means confident. Confident means quite appallingly fast in all weathers.
The X6, is therefore a totally mixed bag. It looks, to be blunt, extremely uncomfortable. Personally, I dislike it intensely. But it drives spectacularly well and is genuinely different in a sector that swims with the boringly practical. BMW will sell every last one of these cars it can make. So it's destined to be the most successful failure I've ever driven.

When i hear something like this for Infiniti, then we can talk. Till then, sorry...

:t-cheers:

Very nice Tyc! X6 really is in a class of it's own....There is absolutely no SUV that comes close to driving this good.......
...And if Autozeitung lets the ML500 win because it has better cargo space, that is fine by me. It just makes me LOL!!!

Oh, and I seriously can't undersgtand how some German car fans over here say the Infinity is like the X6....WTF?????? :t-banghea

The BMW X6 is like a Mercedes CLS. If you want the practical version you go for a BMW X5 / MB E-Class but if you want to ride in a car that looks sleeker, more dynamic and sporty you take the X6 / CLS over the X5 / E-Class.

That's the way I see it. :t-cheers:

Sure the X6 sounds sweet in that article and it will when it`s not being put up to some tight competition. Lets face the facts and get real with our selves.

In my book the X6 is till on top since all we got is one comparison saying something else. And that is an American article - values differ. Infinity being a great example. So, lets face it and get real with ourselves...

Thats true,mate..more or less :usa7uh:
X6 on paper doesn´t make any sense IMO..but,when you see it for the first time in person(like I did 2 months ago on ZG Auto Show) you begin to see its purpose..and its beauty..and power..:t-drive:

Well, here is one fact - X6 has better slalom and skid pad numbers than most non-AMG mercs, yup even 2 door sports cars like SLK 350. So yup, let us get real.

With 10 inch wide tires (vette territory), lets see it get those numbers with 8 inchers. :D

Sunny my man.. Thats such a wide arguement with no basisn at all!

In order actually prove that the cars would have to be tested on the same day under the same conditions.. Even if you want to compare it to the SLK..
But then again what does the SLK have to do with an All-Wheel drive hybred
that weights 800-to 1000lbs more and has 4-doors.

We need to stay on topic please.
