This is easily answered, firstly what makes it better proportioned than the C6? It's all to do with the MLP platform, unlike the C6 the C7 has a shorter front overhang...

Still doesn't look like anything to write home about imho:

A8 for me. I guess I'm one of the few who actually like the design :) It's the only Audi I find interesting, never liked the A4, A6 or A7.

I'd say the A8 as well...
I was lucky enough to drive the A8 4.2 TDI V8 a couple of weeks ago and what an engine 800 nm and 0-100 5sec :D What an awsome Audi so quiet inside
just a touch of that glorious V8 noise.... :D
A8 will forever be the most premium and I just love premium.

This is my list.
A8
A6
A7
A5 SB
....
A4 = crap!

You know even though I'm not a big fan of the exterior design of the A8, the interior is a work of art. When I got in the previous model then interior pretty much sold me on the car.

How did you like the interior during your test drive? Lol...I'm suprise you think the A4 is crap. I have to say after seeing a 2010 model on the street I was impressed. I would get it over a 3 series in a heart beat.

I'll try to explain....,
I wasn't really impressed when I saw the first pictures with the D4 either
I must admit. Still seeing it in the flesh in the dark (at night) was just pure sex.

I have never in my entire life seen something so elegant and clean.
The bentley Arnage for example looks more "brutal" (is that the right word?)
than the new A8. The A8 is all and only about beeing the faithful always classic car, the car you actually can't see how good it is because of the looks.

The interior made me say to my self, "so this is what a Audi actually CAN look like" I was blown away.
The seats, the roof, the ambient light, the "arm-rest" in the back.. LOL, amazing. I was sure the A7 would be my ultimate experience
since I drove the 3.0TDI q for a couple of hours and the A8 only 10-15 minutes.
but that was all that was needed. Sold like a whore.
I also think I did love the feeling that people that saw me didn't know if I
was driving an ordinary Audi or the flagship. the undercover look compared to
some of it's rivals just makes you more worthy. Love it.

For me, the Audi A4 is just to .... A4.
First I do not like the looks of it, I think the size and price does not match.
I would rather buy a nice A3 SB or the A6.
A4 has the LED's that looks most aftermarket because of the "round and small" LEDs.
The A5 on the otherhand has "thick" LED's which I find cool... just for a compareson.

A4 also ruins the line up imo, we have the A5, why do we need the A4 ???
The A4 cabro has allready been killed. I can't wait until Audi kills the rest of the
A4 family. A5 all the way!

So a picture... no picture of the A8 =/ I was to excited...

EDIT
Audi A8, details, finish, stiching, leather, the feeling of perfection that struck me was overwhelming. I really feelt that this was THE number one car, the HORCH of 2011. =)

Man, you really spice up many threads.. Cause your opinion is like 99% of the cases... totally different then the others... hehehe

The weird thing is the amount that feel the A4 is crap but to own one it's actually an exceptionally good car and to own an S4 it's an exceptionally great one.

P.S.
The A8 divides opinion when it comes to looks and I sat on the side of less than impressed but it's slowly winning me over and after seeing a metallic black one with what looked to be 21" rims I must say it really surprised me, in a word ... stunning. F'ing iPhone, took 4 seconds for the camera to load by which time the car had gone.

Yeah I've noticed... I don't know why but I agree on one thing:
If you look at the Audi range in a normal prospective;
(normal inncome, normal need of space in a car, normal ride hight, +++)
you get the idea, well.. the Audi A5 Sportback would be the ultimate car for
a lot of families. Soon now the FL/GP is around the corner and also
you will get it as a 5 seater not only 4.

But agian, hehe... My opinions have always (also IRL) been different. :)

Saying crap is a bit hars but it is so you guys can't miss understand me.
I have for the last week driven a Audi A4 Avant 2010, like 6 days. (I have driven it many times before 2)
But today I finally change it with the new Passat and I can't help saying to my self I like the Passat more.
I don't know what it is but the A4 just does not tickle any of my "petrolhead" senses.
Well well.. enough of my opinions. hehe, the A4 is a good car nevertheless just nothing for me.

I am glad the A8 made such a good impression. I felt the same way. =)

The Passat is another good car and to be perfectly honest with you, if both are fwd then the noticeable differences will be very small and knowing the suspension requirements that VW seem to demand for their cars compared to Audi I would class it more supple and more comfortable to drive and be a passenger in, where as Audi offer a slightly harsher ride but a bit more body control and outright grip.

It's the panel gap that runs front the rear of the lights down that makes the nose look dramatically longer than it actually is which was why I said dark colours suit it best where these panel gaps aren't so noticeable.

BTW the nose is very over an inch longer than before but the same is true for the rear and the wheelbase has increased by two inches, overall it's as balanced proportionally as it was before.

Once you drive one of the new A8 you will be blown away by it's refinement and utter attention to detail, it's right up there with the very best of them and by that I mean Bentley and the likes.

^I think it looks longer with out the vertical line. Vertical lines usually help things look narrower/slimmer in the horizontal plain and vice versa. IMO what messes up A8 is the big horizontal chrome grills, especially now with out the black bar where the plates used to go to break up the big grill. It emphasizes the car's nose heavy looks. That is why I am waiting to see S8 which should have a new grill design with some vertical bars too.

One small line... and such a huge difference...

There's one I dislike even more. But the one you pointed out it bad too, I said the same thing around the day the A8 was released...

Anyways, the line that's even worse:

This time not the front bumper cutline, but the back bumper cutline. What were they thinking? It makes the car look downhearted and depressed.

I didn't even notice it when I saw it in person. If you ever do decide to get it, I would suggest getting some tape and cover it up. If it bothers you "that" much.

I agree, in person most of these lines aren't noticeable because take in the overall shape. I frankly think the whole appearance of the A7 is a success, including the rear. The same is true for the A6 and to a lesser extent the A8 but again it's a car which suits darker colours which might explain the standard palette of colours Audi chosen which are mostly darker.

Judging by the votes for the A4, it isn't that popular (on GCF). Any idea when the new model is coming out?

Really hard for me to tell a difference between what is what based on the pictures.

I voted A6, since I think it's a perfect combo of what all have to offer, and the perfect size.

We I just came from the Auto Show and I would have to say the A8, A6 and A7 look much better in person than in the photos.
