Audi Top In Index Report
German cars headed by Audi led an overall index on the strong points of a vehicle while Japanese cars again scored top on customer satisfaction, the German automobile association ADAC said in its biannual report.
For the first time, Audi took number one spot on the overall ADAC AutoMarX index closely followed by Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW and Porsche.
The index is calculated on the basis of market image, market strength, customer satisfaction, vehicle quality and technical trends.
The ADAC said it based its quality report on objective data including vehicle breakdown reports and roadworthy checks conducted by technical testing authorities.
On the issue of customer satisfaction the Japanese car makers Subaru, Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu and Mazda headed the list. Some 55,000 motorists were asked how satisfied they were with the car they had bought.
However, ADAC said the relatively poor performance of German premium cars in this sector could be attributed to customers expecting and not getting "red carpet treatment" while buyers of cheaper vehicles fitted with many extras were more easily satisfied.
