Official Thread Audi S6 and S7 now as TDI models with electric powered compressor

That all depends on where you live, diesel is cheaper than petrol in Norway, diesel cars are cheaper to buy and have better resale, buying a petrol E53, 540i or S6/S7 would make less sense than buying the diesel alternatives.

Interesting. In the UK diesel cars have have approximentally 10-20% lower resale value than petrol models that have a lower list price. This year finance offers have started becoming cheaper for petrol models as they have a higher resale value. Previous years diesels were usually the cheaper and more bang for the buck option.

The S6 went from a V10 NA petrol to a V6 TDI...
Its disappointing they didn't put the SQ7 V8 TDI engine instead with 435PS (320kw) and a massive 900nm. That would have been a great alternative to the petrol V6 with 450PS Just imagine what the performance could have been like as in the SQ7 it does 4.8sec to 100kmh.

The S6 is a hot looking sedan and the Avant looks great as well. Those wheels look absolutely massive on both cars. The S7 looks mehh, not liking the front bumper in stakes and flat elephant squashed bonnet.

One problem with the A7/S7 Sportback aesthetic is that it has been so thoroughly upstaged by that of the eTron GT (which will reportedly be a 95-to-99% reflection of the stunning concept car).

The A6/S6 is the most complete package of Audis' C/D segment offerings. For me, the A7 and A8 appear almost superfluous.

What a very interesting prospect from Audi. Seems to be quite something, that diesel engine they’re offering. And the looks... love that S7. Could be a car for me. I’ll take it in Goodwood green.

Maybe a future S6 TDI "plus" or even an RS 6 TDI (in addition to the petrol RS 6)? Considering Audi tested the water with an R8 V12 TDI, I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

The electric air charger is a fantastic little addition that makes a ton of difference. I do believe that in a few years, this will be a widespread engine peripheral.

So I know what to put in my car data spreadsheet, these cars have a small e-turbo to start with at low revs, followed by a normal single exhaust gas turbo, whilst also having 48v mild hybrid tech?

So, for engine type where I would write "turbo" for a single turbocharged engine, or "twin-turbo" for a twin-turbocharged engine, this could be written:

"e-turbo/turbo/MHEV"

??

What a measured dose of organic muscle on the outside-and a generous dose of brute power under the hood can achieve.

Stiff competition for the M8 GC and AMG GT 63S. The RS7 will be to the A7 what Aston-Martins' DBS Superleggera is to the DB11.

Looks right-right in that photo. A road weapon.

...and in the video provided courtesy of www.motor1.com today, the in motion footage reveals a seriously menacing and imposing automobile. The increased stance with the bulging wheel arches + decreased ride height make a world of difference vis-a-vis the more pedestrian A7.

I wonder how much it will weigh because even a 4 cylinder A6 is now considerably heavier than equivalent E-Class and 5-Series.

Have to take my hat off to the VW group the S7 was unveiled a couple of weeks ago now the reviews are coming out similar to the Cayenne coupe. I have to agree with Jimmy the beauty contest will be between the 8GC and A7.... the S7 in white looks spectacular.

There are literally too many great cars to choose from now. Audi, Mercedes and BMW are just flooding the market with tempting choices.

So true. Yet several of the offerings will not have successors. At Audis' general assembly event today it was disclosed by company managment that the R8 and TT will not be succeeded at the end of their respective model runs. The same applies for M-Bs' C217 S-Class coupes/cabriolets and quite possibly the C205 C-Class 2 doors. BMWs' 3er GT will quietly disappear as well.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
