Renders Audi Q9

I doubt VW would put grille with Audi logo like that on a mule. Suprsing part for me is that there are no final headlights. Usually Audi test cars already have headlights in production or.. almost production form.. or atleast production shape, just with different inner parts.
Probably it's a very early prototype...

Another SUV? It better beat the coming Landcruiser 300, but with its R8 ground clearance I doubt it can.

Sorry- mule for Q9.

The plate is ingolstadt, not sure if VW uses such plates for their test cars, I believe VW uses BS plates. Polo facelift also has this plate.

That is what a mule is, an early prototype, testing cooling, etc using another car but the front of the car you want to test. Audi has done this before.

Q4 was riding under the ID4, notice the plate, IN, and no, this is not just ID 4 testing, the ID 4 test cars were on BS license plates.

This unknown car is also on IN plates, also has been seen testing with Q3 and Q2.

I think it is an Audi. Its side mirrors are window mounted like the Q4 e-Tron. VW has door mounted side mirrors.

agreed, new E-tron GT is body mounted, same for q7, q5, q3, q2, A3, actually it would be easier to post which have body mounted mirrors than window mounted.

There is no point in looking at the mule for any design clues, maybe front, ie audio grill, but this is just an vw atlas body.

comparing the size of atlas to q7
q7
wheelbase: 2,994 mm
length: 5,052 mm

atlas
wheelbase: 2,980 mm
length: 5,040 mm

they are quite similar, so perhaps we are looking at an early mule for new Q7 as pointed out here earlier by hounted

Audi vehicles have IN(Ingolstadt) or HN(Heilbronn rural district, Neckarsulm plant is located this district) plates, while VW uses WOB(Wolfsburg), GF(Gifhorn) and yes, BS(Braunschweig) for test vehicles. Maybe a few more like H(Hannover) or SZ(Salzgitter), but I don´t remember them all.

About this mule..... it is an Audi, but I personally doubt that this is an "Q9". The front end seems to be too short to be a MLB based car, it has to be something else imo.

My question: Is this an ICE vehicle ? I seem to recognize an oil sump and a muffler. But otherwise, considering Audis' recent quite vocal commitment to electric vehicles, it would surprise me were it not a BEV.

Big three row SUVs will continue to thrive in the US for at least another 6-8 years.

So... The Audi Q.... ID9 is joining BMW in the Citroen/Hyundai split headlight design fad...

On such a huge car slim headlights will look funny. They have already took a step in this direction with the q8, but still kept it as one unit, very good looking. I wonder how will it look in the end…

Mazda proves that slim headlights on a big car with a big grile can look handsome. Heck, look at the audi Grand sphere

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
