The Audi A1 is now finally and officially confirmed by Rupert Stadler, Audi's new head. But it will be named differently!

Audi is expecting to sell around 100.000 cars per year of the new small Audi starting from 2009. The entry-level Audi will be produced in Brussels if the conditions will fit.

But what will be the name for it. ?

Hans.

Maybe Audi Shooting Brake?

Audi's Mini killer??? I surely hope so... What will this car be build off of, the Polo platform??? I would hope that this car is planned for the U.S. If they market it right, could be a success.

Is there really a big market for these "toy" cars like the Mini, Smart and A1(?). I have a feeling the car will end up becoming a sweet 16 car rather than boosting the image of the brand.

They have to sell the fact that it's an enthusiast car w/ unique properties, that's what they've done w/ the Mini and it continues to be a sucess. Buyers range from the "sweet 16's" to the top brass of your local boardroom, I've seen it.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
