Aston stunner unveiled in SA
26/09/2007 08:51
Mere weeks after its first unveiling at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Aston Martin has revealed that the DBS is now available to order to local buyers.
With company head Ulrich Bez and the car piloted by Daniel Craig in the James Bond movie Casino Royale in attendance, the announcement was made at the official opening of the Aston Martin centre in Cape Town on Tuesday.
"The DBS delivers the complete driving experience and bridges the gap between our road and track cars - the DB9 and DBR9."
The Aston Martin DBS is a 6.0-litre V12-powered two-seater hand built at the company's Gaydon plant in England.
Lightweight carbon fibre body panels have shaved off more than 30 kg from the standard car's weight and this is the first road-going Aston Martin to be equipped with ceramic brakes. These brakes are said to be 12.5 kg lighter than conventional steel brakes.
The car's V12 produces 380 kW at 6 500 r/min. The company quotes a 0 - 100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 302 km/h.
DBS is the latest to join the Aston Martin line-up comprising DB9 and V8 Vantage Coupe and Roadster in South Africa. However, if you'd like to lay your hands on one, the waiting list is reportedly already quite long. And as for the price, if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it
