DB12 Aston Martin DB12, DB12 Volante, DB12-S, DB12-S Volante

You have got to be speaking relatively, because is nothing slow about anything they make. They aren’t setting out to make the fastest cars on the market. Totally irrelevant.

So why should people buy this over a Ferrari 296 or 911 Turbo S?

Same reason you buy any car over another, because you want one. Whatever your personal preference is. For me it would be the design.

Moreover, the 296 and Turbo S are outright sports cars whereas a DB12S leans much more toward the GT class. Coupled with proportions than one can only get with a front-engined coupé, it's obvious that DB12S would be chosen if that's what the buyer was after - very different ownership and usage experience.

The Amalfi is the more obvious competitor for the DB12 IMO.

I agree, Aston Martin are back to their best with a beautiful design for all their models. They are absolutely gorgeous.
They have been doing a great job as of late with both their interior and exterior game. Ironically, I think the DB12 is their biggest design weakness in the line-up.

The Vanquish has a refined muscle car look. The Vantage has a shark-like aggression. Both mid-engined cars, the Valkyrie and Valhalla, look technical. The DBX accomplishes in incorporating all the modern A-M aesthetics on a raised two-box profile.; it may be my favorite ultra-lux SUV that's not a G-wagen. But what all these cars have are great proportions compared to the DB12. Relative to the rest of the line-up, the DB12 has a somewhat awkward truncated rear deck, which also highlights height from the bottom of the front wheel to the top of the front fender.

Now, it's by no means an unsightly car, but it does occupy the least attractive A-M in the current line-up. The S does help with it appearance.
